Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Something doesn’t smell right about that “woe is me” screed. First of all, Jim’s precedent is total dishonest framing of arguments wrapped in histrionic language, and this is no different. “Financial abuse” is a retarded term. What this really sounds like to me is the other guy wanted more money, they fell out, and now Jim is having tranny drama and trying to bury the other guy as an “abuser” as troons do.

Even if Jim was telling the truth here, at least in certain spots, I wouldn’t know which part to believe because he’s so dishonest and manipulative elsewhere. Which is also his fault.

On the bright side, at least Jim’s life seems like a miserable shitshow. What a shocker!

Sorry, I forgot - he’s healthier, happier, and smarter than he’s ever been. This is reflected in his fun-loving content and creative renaissance since trooning out.

So I had heard about Jim in passing, didn’t pay much attention to him until Null’s MATI stream. Holy shit is this guy insufferable. How can one talentless hack be so self absorbed?
I mean I guess the wig and steam punk shit looks better than his old get up? Barely?

How come he still uses the Jim brand? I thought he’d be all in renaming shit to Stephquisition or something lame like that.
I misread that as "I heard of Jim's Passing" and thought you were making a joke about how the real Jim Sterling died long before transitioning.

"When you find out the guy you pay around $30-40 an hour for an average of two to three part days a week"

Yeah Jimbo you shit head?
Okay you paid him $30-40 bucks an hour but how many hours where you paying him for?
If Justin was only being paid for like 2-3 hours over ONLY 2-3 days, that honestly doesn't add up to much you disingenuous fuck. ( ex 40x3= 120x3=360) That does seem like a lot, but How long did it take Justin to edit those Videos?
Plus If Justin still lives in Philly, that's shit pay right there compared to cost of living in that shit hole.
What a fucking piece of shit Jim is.
Jim's subreddit went from concern over Justin to slagging him off within a matter of seconds

Also, Jim states he's been left with $100,000 in debt without his knowledge or consent...
1. He's in the UK and he doesn't know the currency here?
2. How do you get left in debt without knowledge or consent? Did he give Justin the login to his bank account and not have the ability to log in himself?
3. No, the Hogwarts Legacy video was not difficult to make
4. How long until all the people he's thanking in this are the next ones to be thrown under the bus, claiming harassment/abuse/etc?

Edit to add: It's funny that Jim still has his description on the website.

Justin McDaniel

He/They. This ADONIS of a person is a graphic designer, video editor, podcast producer, game developer, and should probably not be allowed to write his own bio...
... but here we are!

Paying an editor $30/hour is not that big of a deal, it's a part time gig. Not sure how long it could possibly take to edit a JS video (just line up the shots and stick in footage while needed) would probably be a few hours - nothing crazy.

So if we do the napkin math, $30/hour and let's be generous and say it takes 5 hours per video.

$30 * 5 = $150 per video
52 * $150 (one video per week) = $7,800 a year

Yeah no shit this guy couldn't afford rent, pay bills, and had to borrow money from you - he's making next to nothing. I'm not sure what's a "livable" wage over there, but he would six other weekly clients to make ~$55,000/year.

Jim makes like $150,000 for a solid four hours of work a week and can't even pay his editor anything resembling a living wage. "Paying Living Wages for thee but not for me" lol.

You also have to remember that for a lot of work like this, you are often only charging for active work time. It can take two hours to edit a video and then another two to render and upload it. That isn't time spent actively working, but it does represent opportunity cost.

Yeah, I was trying to be as generous as possible with the napkin math and only got to $7,800 a year.

If he's only allowed to charge for the 2 hours actively editing, he makes $3120 a year - lmao.

It sounds like Jim is trying to paint himself as a "great guy" by letting his editor clock in for "extra" time to get up to ~5 hours - skyrocketing his earnings to a massive "almost $10,000 a year". What a benevelent overlord.

Thanks for reminding me about this classic shit take from Jim. For anyone not familiar with the controversy (it was over a decade ago, now) an argument started around the inclusion of 'rape' scenes in video games like Tomb Raider and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow; mainly that it was dumb to get upset about those when the average video game has you murdering scores of people. Jim's retarded argument was that murder doesn't matter because the victims of murder aren't still around to get upset, whereas rape victims could be triggered by seeing their trauma re-created in a game (apparently they can handle rape scenes in films and books just fine).

I'm sure I don't need to explain to you scholars why this is a colossally retarded take (it's not like murder victims have families or anyone ever survives a murder attempt) but this might be the first time I ever became aware that Jim isn't actually that smart, and he will happily be a disingenuous asshole when it suits his narrative.
I like the part where he says rape is one-sided "for the most part". We really did have all the signs he was a sex pest from the start.

Since Jim hates AI generated stuff so much, I asked ChatGPT to write a more concise version of Jim's rant about firing Justin

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with a heavy heart that I must address you today. My once-trusted editor, Justin, has committed a grave betrayal against me and the Jimquisition YouTube series. He has gone against my wishes, he has ignored my feedback, and worst of all, he has put the entire future of the show in jeopardy. I had no choice but to fire him.

Now, I know that some of you may be thinking, "What does Commander Sterling know about YouTube editing?" Well, let me tell you something, my dear friends. I may be the greatest wrestler of all time, but I am also a multi-talented individual. I have a keen eye for detail, and I know what makes a great video.

But even with all of my expertise, I couldn't prevent the disaster that Justin caused. Because of his incompetence, we are now $100,000 in debt. Can you believe it? $100,000! And it's all because of Justin's mistakes. I mean, I know I'm the best wrestler in the world, but I can't be expected to be good at everything, can I?

Thank God for me, though. Because even though Justin's betrayal has put us in a difficult situation, I know that I have what it takes to turn things around. I am confident in my abilities as a wrestler, as a content creator, and as a human being. So, let us move forward, my friends, and show the world what we are made of. Thank God for me.

Edit:

And for the hell of it, I asked ChatGPT to give Justin's side of the story

Hey, everyone. I just wanted to address some of the recent comments made by James Stephanie Sterling. I'm sure you've all heard about the situation with the Jimquisition YouTube series, and I want to tell you my side of the story.

First of all, let me say that I did not betray anyone. I was simply trying to do my job to the best of my abilities. However, I was severely underpaid and mistreated by James Stephanie Sterling. Despite my hard work and dedication, I was struggling to make ends meet, and it was affecting my mental health.

James Stephanie Sterling has a history of mistreating his employees, and I was no exception. He expected me to work long hours for minimal pay, and he refused to provide any benefits or support. It was a toxic work environment, and I was constantly under stress.

I tried to bring these issues to James Stephanie Sterling's attention, but he dismissed my concerns and refused to acknowledge my value as an employee. I was left with no choice but to seek employment elsewhere.

So, before you believe James Stephanie Sterling's accusations, please consider the other side of the story. I did not betray anyone. I was simply trying to make a living and provide for myself. Thank you.

Surely Jim claiming that Justin has been abusive, has committed theft and somehow put him $100,000 in debt, and writing this in his Patreon post, is a form of libel. It would be fucking hilarious to see Justin successfully sue Jim over this.
Also, Jim states he's been left with $100,000 in debt without his knowledge or consent...

It's not Justin that put him in $100k debt, it's a prior "abusive relationship" that he was in because "too willing to believe in my own incompetence and glom onto someone who is 'better' than me", and this person surely must have been living with him to exert the level of control he describes. I think he's talking about his hambeast ex-wife!? Here's the excerpt on its own so you can judge for yourself, it really sounds like he's referring to his wife:

Since we’re here, I might as well get something quasi-related off my chest that I’ve carried for a long time. It’s been dredged up by all this, and I feel I need to get it out.

I’ve never mentioned what I’m about to talk about publicly before: I’m a previous victim of financial abuse. For many years I was in a situation where I did not have control of my own money. I was denied access to bank accounts, what money I could spend was monitored, etc. I was essentially a resource where my agency was not a concern. My value consisted of what money I could bring in, which was never seen as enough.

It’s very easy to take advantage of me, really. I’m too willing to believe in my own incompetence and glom onto someone who is “better” than me. I’m very easily gaslit, and I’m terrible at self advocacy. The short of it is that after I actually got myself out of this abusive relationship, I was left with over $100,000 of debt that had been building up without my knowledge, consent, or control.

Contrary to what some people love to claim, I’m not “rich.” That was never true to begin with (the Patreon figure is never reflective of what I take home after failed transactions, fees, taxes, paying the people I work with, etc), but I can’t emphasize enough what I lost - everything. My grandparents meant the world to me, and everything they ever left me has been lost on this as well. I never wanted to say anything about it, as desperate as it got, as devastating as it was. I can’t tell you why - Phee offered me a list of reasons why an abuse victim doesn’t speak up. I could probably just throw a dart at it.

Thanks to several hugely lucky breaks, losing everything I had, and a massive amount of accounting and sales help from my husband and Conrad, I have somehow clawed myself out of the woods. Those “Gays Can Do Whatever They Want” shirts may have quite genuinely rescued me!

That said, I’m still recovering both materially and emotionally. More than the money, being solely responsible for the consequences of what someone else did to me has been a level of pain I can’t adequately describe.

Ah, ok, thanks for that - the post is so long and rambling that I thought Jim was still talking about Justin at that point.

I don't think editing the videos was 5 hours per video, having experience editing video is say it's a bit closer to 8 or 10. Either way, Jim bitching over nothing.
It varies on the video, but JQ videos are a static shot of a "person" talking with some after effects that are common (same logos, backgrounds, etc) and a few insert shots of "footage". He doesn't have to recreate any art between episodes and the audio equipment isn't reused for anything else (and doesn't need to be recalibrated).

Even if we say he does 10 hours and gets to bill for all 10 hours, that skyrockets him up to $15,600 a year. Which is pretty terrible for "Edits for Famous Youtube Channel".

10 hours a week is a lot more than Jim puts in, too. At least we now know why the last two videos were so late.

Translation: I was a pay cuck for my ex-wife.

My ex-wife tried that "Control the money, control the man" thing. It didn't work because I'm neither stupid or a pay cuck, unlike Jim. But even now in his polycule or whatever that tranny commune he's living in is called he'll still be the one bringing in the money and paying for "Friendship".

This newest video really kind of encapsulates to me all my problems with sterling's videos and channel.
some boring low effort video about how whatever in the gaming industry is a sign of how capitalism and bigotry are still alive and how poor minorities ( like our beautiful wrestling diva herself ) suffer the most in this society, the main problem with this besides that these videos just sound boring is that every video feels the same in the worst way possible. i'm not interested in hearing about how the same companies who have sucked since gamer gate still suck.
