shounic has been livestreaming his "map improvement" project on youtube and watching it makes me hope that kind of community doesn't take over the reins of TF2 in the future. His "improvements" consist of removing almost all the flanks from maps and turning them into Overwatch style meat grinder choke points. He also replaced the custom train payload on pl_frontier with the normal bomb cart and that's a cardinal sin.

I don’t get why tf2 maps need need to have a common design, it sounds like he just wants to play borneo. Which begs the question of why doesn’t he just play borneo? tf2 doesn’t have the greatest map design but it makes up for it in variety and numbers, to the point where if you want to play any specific way you can queue for maps which fit your criteria. Honestly I think the biggest reason people take issue with map design in tf2 is the don’t understand how many elements have to be accounted for and sometimes you can’t hit all of them without abandoning your theming or concept. We have 2 classes with heavy vertical mobility, spy needs places to decloak and run off to, sniper needs sightlines but can’t have too much, scout, spy and pyro need enough flank routes that camping a flank all game isn’t worth it. Tf2 is just hard to design maps for. Sorry I think I lost track of what I was doing halfway through but thank you for listening to my Tedtalk.
