n=372. n=372. This statistic is based on a survey of 372 "transgender youth." I shouldn't need to tell you why that's a completely garbage sample size, and ultimately useless as a result. Without the ability to even read the full study itself (lol paywalled gottem), I can't even determine how they identify "transgender youth," ie is it just self-identification? How 'good' of a suicide attempt did it have to have been to be counted? Furthermore, the word is reported - reported, as in,
they said they did it. Suicide 'attempts' aren't especially uncommon among autistic teens, for example, but they're very often a little on the cry-for-help side of things.
The truth of the matter is that we don't really have good data on trans suicide statistics. We know basically jack shit, and we don't have any clue whether people kill themselves because of unkind bullying uwu or because they kindof regret cutting their dick off once the sexual euphoria fades. They have higher rates of depression which tend to correlate with higher suicide attempts, sure, but the statistics - which have been trotted out as the primary justification for all of this shit - are pretty cracked. We know that LGB people are more depressed than the average joe and have a slightly higher rate of suicide related to that, but we didn't go pretending that sex isn't real and letting the crimson chin into women's prisons as a result of that factoid.
Violence against trans stats are similarly dogshit, because the sample sizes are so small and if you load them up with hookers - well, surprise surprise, hookers experience a lot of violence. Do trans hookers get more than your usual slate? I mean, maybe, but even if that's true, this little throughline gets stretched to "every day, people are looking to kill us everywhere!" Which becomes a justification towards making themselves... as much of a nuisance to as many people as possible? You can see why it doesn't really follow.
Most trans statistics are basically the result of some rich shithead wanting to justify a bill and paying for a university to shit out a paper they can shove in lawmakers' faces. One of the only good ones was from Sweden, if memory serves, and it wound up being a prime example of why Scandinavian countries don't let minors get hormones unless they jump through a million fucking hoops to prove that they actually have GD and haven't just been groomed on discord.
