Pizza Tower - wacky-but-stylish indie action game still under the radar

While I don't doubt this whole ordeal is giving MrPig headaches, the steam reviews don't seem to be "bombed" at all, it's still Overwhelmingly Positive in every way, he'll be just fine no matter what happens. Hell, he might also be a former/current 4chan poster but it's not uncommon at all to see people that used to be edgelords join the cathedral a sort of penance, so don't hedge your bets on him leaning one way or the other, you might as well just flip a coin.

I will say that I am more than a little annoyed by seeing memes of it recommended to me that are made by teenagers with unicode stars and odd fonts in their usernames and pronouns in their bio. Not sure what exactly brought that filth in particular to this game but it sure as shit happened.

Also I liked the first Wario Land more than any of the others, sue me.

There's a weird overlap between Pizza Tower fans and Celeste fans, for some reason. They're both platformers, but beyond that are nothing alike, either gameplay-wise or stylistically. Since it came out at a similar time to Hogwarts Legacy you could see the steam review page spammed to hell and back with dumbshit reviews saying "Pizza Tower is good because it's not transphobic like that other game!" I'm guessing it has something to do with the largely inoffensive and surreal sense of humor, trendy Italian jokes and the 90's cartoon style which is in vogue in ironic zoomer circles far too young to have ever seen any on TV.

Thankfully it seems like Pizza Tower's got a majority following of normal folks who don't care about the "controversy" but the smaller annoying pronoun teenager demographic is undeniably there and vocal and ready to get irritating with their obsessive fandom bullshit. Fingers crossed MrPig doesn't kowtow to their buzzing and accidentally cause himself more problems.

The reason is two-fold. The first part is basically what you describe, but this also ties into how these weirdos keep trying to shoehorn in trans Peppino. Celeste has a demographic of the most vocal pronoun variety, who can't enjoy a piece of media without inserting their transgenderness into it, and since Pizza Tower doesn't have much of a story, it's perfect for troons to imprint on because there isn't some piece of "lore" that contradicts them.

The second is the tards comparing the game to Celeste because... It's indie, I guess. The guy who called the game "Celeste for weird people" was a massive part of this, and this line's even been mentioned in the thread. However, I also raise this video as a massive cause:

This video absolutely blew up and I frequently see it cited by the Celeste parasites that have glomped onto Pizza Tower, the rest of this guy's videos only average a few thousand views because he's your generic overanalyzing soy channel, but this one has almost 500k. If you want to get an idea of how spergtastic this guy is, just look at how he derails the video to rant about how "disgusting" Wario is.

He spends the video basically trying to pigeonhole Celeste and Pizza Tower into two distinct "styles", the shitty matrix reference in the thumbnail and title. (Which doesn't even work because he contradicts himself with his spiel of Celeste "Evolving into a Wario Pilled game" when you get good at the moveset, so that means every game that's been spedrun ever is a "Wario Pilled game") Celeste fans latched onto both this and the "Celeste for weird people" comment hard. I can only hope this pathetic cancellation attempt gets the troons to leave, but that is contingent on if McPig kneels to the troons or not.

yeah this is the main reason, said quote was a from a twitter review of the game that got made fun of and then lead to the Mort the Chicken style crossover stuff with Celeste
