Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

i know i'm late to this but i just watched wendi's latest mandela catalogue video last night and holy shit what happened to that series lmfao. the live action was miserable, the effects of the exposition dumping alternate are hilariously bad, and the story went full retard. how do you drop the ball on a pretty cool concept so hard like this
I think the creator is like 18 years old or something, that’s the only excuse I can come up with for how this series went BTFO’d to high hell. It’s a shame too, I occasionally watch the very first episode comp of the series if I want to get a decent scare.

The Backrooms guy is around his age too, then again that series isnt that far into the story so it might collapse later, not that I want it to.
I don't want to be too harsh on him either, from what I've seen of Alex he seems like an okay guy and I doubt he expected a video he put together on his phone would blow up the way it did. There's an expectation from the audience that things should escalate, and one aspect of that is production, especially when you start on movie maker on an iphone I'd like to get away as far from that as possible.

the reason why they made this is because of "japnese" clickbait shit. slap 'jap" on anything and it sells. people worship japan like it's Olympus and the Japanese are gods. I've been to japan and it's fuckin' boring and japanese horror isn't any better than american horror.
It's worse.

75-80% of slant horror is this girl. This shit scares them to death.

They're faggots and Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, or The Mummy are unironically more terrifying than a girl who died and was sad.

I just realized, is The Backrooms a complete rehash over how Slender Man was ruined/developed over the years?
-both started off on relatively obscure places with photos describing their unsettling nature (SA for slender, /x/ for backrooms)
-both started off as intriguing, mysterious, fear of the unknown type horrors
-both got autistically dragged by children with adding unnecessary lore to their characters, pretty much ruining the horror element (no thanks to youtube stars turbo boosting their recognition)
-both have high-production youtube shows based off of the material (Marble Hornets for Slender, that one series Kane is making in Blender)
And now, both of them will get a feature-length film when The Backrooms movie does eventually drop.
It's kinda funny how I haven't noticed we've been through this whole song and dance shit before.

Hey at least no schizophrenic kids have killed any innocent people over the Backrooms, yet.

I really like indirect worldbuilding, which is why I loved the bible story videos. The wheels started falling off in volume 2 with the tryhard voice acting but I think Vol3 is the turning point where Im now watching to be unhappy with it.

Gemini is still the best in the sektur because so far the producers seem to be aware that the strength of analog horror anthologies is in loosely interconnected vignettes that allow the viewer to piece the world and whats going on together. Thats what I thought the mandela catalog was fixing to be, especially since the first few videos were seemingly supposed to be a sort of POV of someone watching and switching out tapes to figure out what was going on.

While Dave's vid is a very comprehensive 'this horrible shit happened' case overview, Matt focuses on the trial. I learned a thing or two about court proceedings from him explaining what tricks Brooks was trying to pull while representing himself. I think MO's analyses show he's more knowledgable on psychology and criminal justice than any of the other big names. Please do share any lesser known TC analyses that are more than 'morbid story for soccermoms to schlick to'
I hope Matt makes a video in the future dedicated to the sovereign citizen movement like the beginning of the Darrel Brooks video was, but more comprehensive, there is a lot of insanity in that rabbit-hole.

also, I feel like this thread should be split or something, it’s kinda weird discussing analog horror stuff right next to real life crime cases, should there be a dedicated True crime media thread?

There’s a True Crime thread here on the farms already, its just been dead for a while https://kiwifarms.net/threads/true-crime-megathread.52623/

I’m sick, so to pass the time I’ve been trying desperately to find some good Internet horror. I’ve watched all of the “interesting” liminal spaces videos, and if I watch one more, I’ll probably retch. I’ve also watched some of the “lost footage” videos linked in this thread. I do game on rare occasion, and I found these to be more informative than creepy. There was one video someone linked where a YouTuber came across an abandoned TF2 server and map that served as some sort of memorial to a long gone community. Again, not scary/creepy, but that’s the kind of thing that really jogs my noggin. Who were these people? Why did their community collapse? Where are they now? The video itself had teased just enough footage without overtly telling you it was a nothingburger so you can draw your own conclusions.

I watched the Nexpo video on that woman who was harassing he and his online buddies, finally, and that laugh was totally needed. That video is one of the many prime examples of what’s wrong with Internet horror, or storytelling, in general. People make the video about themselves and forget about the subject matter entirely. He also did this for that Lake City Quiet Pills video, which was an absolute nothing and could have been summarized in 10 minutes, but instead, the video is padded out with his incorrect assessments of the situation. To top it off, he admitted to paying a “private investigator” to dig information up on the individuals involved. I hope he got absolutely fleeced because with 7 dollars for a snusbase account, he could have received the same information.

Also their obsession with "cute little girls" is weird and creepy.

related to this train of thought, in praise of shadows has a new video riffing on this idea. kinda long-winded but it's not a bad video at all

So someone in here posted a video from Haunted Autopsy on a school shooter who had an account here. I checked out his channel and he makes really good content. So thank you to that poster. I bring this up because he just uploaded a new video.

Speaking of death, new Fascinating Horror about the Twilight Zone movie incident.

Despite being discussed to death, it's quite a good video.

Edit to add my thoughts about the H.A. video; Cases like that are effective in filling me with existential horror. Imagine just walking and minding your own business, then someone drops by and murders you for absolutely zero reason. Just like that, your life is snuffed at the hands of some methheads treating life like it's disposable tissues. All your hopes and dreams end thanks to some dumbfucks wanting a little "fun".

It rattles my bones something fierce.
