It may just be part and parcel of "Idol" culture which v-tubers are derived from, and that itself is kind of fucked up in a sense that the companies behind traditional Idol figures in Japan actually have a history trying to cultivate this same kind of mentality in their customers and profit from it. Apparently, until very recently, Idol singers were actually contractually forbidden by their companies from dating, marrying, or starting families because doing so would destroy the "image" of the Idol among their predominantly (single) male fanbase.

Like make_it_so says, it's probably collateral from idol culture. But I agree it's fucking insane. As long as the tuber doesn't talk about her bf (same deal with an idol during work) it should be fucking irrelevant. I want to believe most of the lonely fucks that obsess about idols and vtubers have at least a level of self awareness that they are likely disgusting creatures that no idol would ever interact willingly outside of work, but I know that's wishful thinking.

I don't have any links or anything like that only stories. There's a weird line of thinking that "they are kids" and its not as bad as it is or they don't fully understand what they are doing. This goes to how middle school and high school ages are different then the US. On the girl side witnessing all of this (this is considering if they were not a perpetrator and instead a victim or bystander) usually causes them to hate korean guys or seek out white guys since to them they are seen as more companionate oddly enough Italian men are seen as the most passionate and romantic

But the biggest thing is this type of thing doesn't stop at school it continues into the work place since they have a more strict seniority then Japan does where not even properly addressing good morning or just smiling while your seniors at a company shit talk you is seen as you causing trouble.

Typing all this out also reminds of one other story my ex told me where she and another girl got into a full on fist fight and no one cared, this was even at a small private school.

I talk to a small group of people who follow v-tubers, they just like to hear them talk about stuff while saying "the character design is cool" and it's mostly an entertainment thing, some of them even told me they do stand up comedy with the suits and so on and yes, they def know it's a character and most people are not interested in the real person which is a good thing for privacy sake. On the other hand something I don't get, is to call anyone who find a "loli" character cute or enjoyable a pedophile? I get it's creepy but at this point any character that is short is considered one and it's annoying for anyone to be called a pedo for that, they're not real and will never be, we are kinda proving the troons right when they attack people for liking anime characters who look 20+ but in canon are 16 or some other bullshit that makes no sense.
