Yeah, titanium can’t really melt. It just burns when you get it to a high enough temperature.

It was discovered in the late 1700’s but nobody could do anything with it until the mid 1900s because it took chemists to devise a practical method to precipitate titanium out of a chemical solution rather than regular old smelting. So no welding.

It’s actually a very bitchy material. If your finger swelled up with a titanium band on it, you’d be in trouble because it’s not easy to cut. It’s very springy, which means very “chattery” as a machinist might say. Cutting tools tend to pull at it instead of just removing chips.

I'm no machinist but I've cut off more than a few titanium rings in both the ED and the OR, and they come off easily enough. It's for sure not the first option, but if it can't be removed with lubricant and string or some ice water applied, we cut it. I've no clue what grades the rings were, and the vast majority of them were different. What I'm saying is if you want a titanium ring and you need medical attention it might impede, don't worry about that too much.
