Damn, another continuance? It makes you wonder what the hell the courts are even doing.
Though considering it's Chris, i guess the constant continuances are fair.
The majority of "normal" criminals will show remorse, even phony remorse, or else be too hardened, and thus just sent to prison. Chris on the other hand, just doesn't care what's going on. He's perfectly content to play up his cope, especially when faced with the probability of the courts putting him a group home in order to get him to be able to live independently. Throwing Chris into prison, even PC, would probably kill him because he just has that way to make anyone around him repulsed and angry.
Now throw in the autism deferral. A lot of autistic people usually have
some family that can help out, except for Chris. They all washed their hands of him, which is pretty extraordinary. Then you have other autistic folks, who would hate being in jail because it would mean they'd miss out on stuff, which is what we thought Chris would be like, then it turned into him actually liking where he is.
Chris has developed a habit of straight up ignoring people trying to get him to live on his own, be responsible, etc... His father, the various courts over the years, people he talked to online, but in all those cases, Chris just didn't want to think about it. So even now, the system has an incredibly difficult time in trying to figure out what to do with him. Then you mix in Heilberg. Heilberg most definitely knows, if Chris is let out without some sort of structure, he'll probably go on to get into trouble, not to mention blab about everything, which is going to make Heilberg look bad, and by that stroke, the courts too, since they all were supposed to "fix" Chris.
"Man rapes his elderly mother and let out with barely a slap on the wrist" is not good press for anyone involved.
The other thing too, is that there is nothing horrible Chris is facing if he doesn't. No one's going to come kick the shit out of him, rape him, or turn his life into a living hell, so he has zero interest in doing anything now. Previous Chris just did what the courts wanted at his first deferral system, because he knew if he didn't, he'd be removed from his home and toys. Since that already happened, and Chris discovered that he wouldn't have to "adult" in jail, there's been no motivation on his part.
