Forgive me if this take has already been thrown out for the fifty billionth time, but RE4 remake might be the most unnecessary game remake of all time. I already in general hate that everything churned out by publishers now is a remake because the industry has been creatively bankrupt for a decade now; and while I didn't like the RE2 remake and still think the PS1 games are still perfectly playable (especially with the Sourcenext ports), I at least understand the logic behind remaking 2 and 3 because some people (plebs :smug:) can't into tank controls.
But RE4 is probably the closest any game I think has ever had to perfect gameplay. It's formula is so tight and had so much care put into it to make it fun that anything will pale in comparison. And even doing it to give a new coat of paint doesn't make sense because of the RE4 HD Project, which makes the game truly shine and show how strong the art direction was for it.

It just feels like a cashgrab, and it doesn't shock me that people are excited for it/will buy it, I accepted a long time ago that people that enjoy vidya (myself included) are fucking retarded, but c'mon, this is just too blatant I feel.
No, it's pretty common in here that most people feel it never needed a remake. The only real dated thing is not moving while aiming, but other than that it's still a solid experience with a fuck load of content. RE4 is available on fucking everything. It's not inaccessible. The HD project version of it may as well be a true remake of it with meticulous attention to every single pixel of the game being rerendered with new textures.

But yeah. It's a cash grab. They'll milk it for years and years just like the last one. RE has hit a creative deadend for at least a decade. Post Wesker's death they don't know what to do with the series anymore since they killed off their core villain and can't get anything to replace him, so they're going to retread 30 years of old ground again, but very poorly.

I can almost accept this remake for what it was but everything in the trailers is telling me it's going to be terrible EXCEPT for the gameplay, and RE4's charm was as much everything else as much as it was for gameplay. The voice acting in this is SSShit tier. Even the castle zealots sound very shit in the new trailer. The zealots in the original were creepy as fuck. They still hold up, as much as everything else in the original.
I have this goofy unironic theory that Capcom is trying to get RE4 to have more versions/ports than Dragon's Lair.
You just know they'll milk the fuck out of this for the next 3-4 consoles. "RE4R remastered for PS6"
 
Yeah the acting has become very wooden. I thought the guy that did Marvin did well, but something about it still felt like plastic and artificial.

I think Barry and Kendo had the most personality in the entire series.

I am fully convinced that the reason the acting is as bad as it is is due to the current studio they are using. A lot of this is bad casting, some of it is just bad direction. Both are on the recording studio.



One thing I fucking hate about 2make (I can't remember 3make since I haven't played it since release) is that no matter where you shoot a zombie, even in the head, it's the same damage if you shoot them in the foot. There's no benefit to being good at the game at all, and you're penalized for it. It's designed for you to play on assisted mode.
This is why RNG shouldn't be in a survival horror game. It shouldn't be up to a dice roll whether I take out a zombie with one shell from my shotgun, or all freaking four.

I disagree. And really, that's not even RNG necessarily. That's just shitty enemy HP design. The game wasn't supposed to be over the shoulder so to mitigate that, they make all the zombies the bullet sponges. I hate how hard the shotgun and magnum were nerfed in that.

RNG in say RE3N is incredible and changes every time you play. But that RNG is based around little things that don't break the game. Items in rotating spots. Different enemy patterns in rooms. Zombies going "turbo." There's a little RNG with zombie HP but it's very minimally different from one another.

No, its RNG. The game has an AI, similar to "the Director" from Left4Dead that specifically tailors the game's difficulty depending on how well your doing. If you have a lot of ammo, the game ups how much damage enemies take so that you are forced to expend it in combat. That's why I say RNG. The game specifically controls how difficult enemies are to take out.

Even going for a headshot with the shotgun is not a guaranteed one hit kill in RE2 remake, nor does it always pop zombie heads, which it did in the original. Which is why I used that as an example.

Alright I see what you're saying. That would be RNG. The problem with how that is built is what I stated earlier that it doesn't matter where you shoot them which is truly idiotic. Just make their walk speed and sway more aggressive and you can make it harder for headshots.

There was a general range of HPs for all zombies in the older games but they generally never felt too far from each other. In 2make you can down a fucking zombie twice and it'll get up again sometimes. And even then, the game is piss easy even on Hardcore. Headshots in that with the pistol are very RNG and there was times I would get 5 in a row with one magazine.

I know you don't like it but I think RNG in Nemesis was the best execution of it. I like that there's two patterns of enemies in some areas. Like the west office of RPD can either be spread out, or they can be lined up next to Marvin's office and you can take them out with 2-3 shotgun blasts since they're stacked. You could find two red herbs outside the STARS office or they'll be outside the gas station.

The main one is either the magnum or nade launcher in the STARS office, and I always save it right before because the magnum is ass in that game.

so i played the demo and i like it. the enemies feel alot tankier and more aggressive compered to the older game, which means you have to move alot more and relay less on knockbacks. tried to kill Salvador but that mother fucker is tankie. even with two grenades and emptying my shotgun, the fucker was still alive. sad he no longer cuts Leon's head off when he kills him.

the best part was me running into the little house after you grab the shotgun to have a stand off and there is already three enemies waiting for you there. the fuckers knew :story:.

Just got off the demo too, I digged it. Leon's death scenes are tone down, but by god the Ganado are much more satisfying to fight, with the new gore system in place. For the first time in ages the Village fight was actually making me anxious too, I was shocked I wasn't breathing until the bell rung. Game most certainly has nailed the gameplay aspect so far.
 
Played the demo and enjoyed it as well. The village fight is definitely more intense. There are allot more enemies, they are more aggressive and they always seem to be trying to surround you. Could not stop running or I would be done. Also made the Salvador more terrifying cause every villager is trying to grab you and stun lock you. Making it easy for him to one shot you. Interested to see how the full game turns out.

I won't lie, I ran into the house across the shotgun house to hold up in the room with an old strategy I found of holing up in the room and kicking the door, and seeing the three people in there was a fun surprise. Kept me on my toes.
The Ganado feel like genuine threats and I like that. It was really stressful with how they effectively manage to corner me, and just barely passing by Salvador, I was stressed by the time it was done.
I'm excited.
