King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

@TVBForever you thinking of family guy or KotH?

Also a lot of your list are practically professional voice actors now.
Family Guy AND American Dad. Remember, Scott Grimes was Steve Smith in American Dad.

But yea, Mila Kunis has also been in more TV and movie than in animated products. See also That '70s Show, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Book of Eli, Black Swan, Bad Moms, Ted and while we're on the subject on Mike Judge, Extract.

I'll be honest, I only know Scott Grimes from American Dad and I think The Orville? (Just like I know Alex Borstein from Mad TV and Family Guy)

What else is he even in?

Crimson Tide, Mystery, Alaska, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, Winter's Tale and the upcoming Chris Nolan movie Oppenheimer, all of which he played minor characters in. He was also in Critters 2, and he was more famous playing in two dramas, Party of Five and ER.

He had a somewhat prominent role in Band of Brothers as Sergeant Donald Malarkey.

Scott Grimes was literally the main star on Party of Five and Band of Brothers and had a very important supporting role in ER. He's very famous in my book judging from his resume.
Yeah but PO5 was 94-00. American Dad started in '14. It's not like he had a scheduling conflict.

KotH by comparison was 97-10. Drew Carey show was 95-04. Hosting Who's Line is it Anyway 98-04 (along with a touring improv show for several years after that), and he's been hosting the Price is Right since '07.

I'm not saying Drew Carey was like a mega star or anything, but the guy's clearly been busy working. Not that voice acting is very strenuous or anything, but it's pretty obvious how they might have a bit of challenge getting him back in the booth for an episode compared to other VAs in other shows. For another example, Mila Kunis starred in That 70s Show in '98. Family Guy premiered (with her) in '99. Both shows literally gave her her start. And considering she's not even a main cast member of both but a part of an ensemble it seems she was able to do both shows fairly easily. Hell both shows premiered on Fox so she probably just had to walk across the hall between takes.

Wrong. American Dad actually first aired in 2005 and lasted on Fox until 2014, which then had TBS took over the airing for newer episodes. Do you not remember that it was heavily promoted during the 2005 Super Bowl by airing its first episode along with an episode of The Simpsons? Besides that, it was originally set to be Family Guy's replacement once that show was cancelled by Fox for good.

You're right, I misread the date - my mistake. But that still places it 5 years after PO5 ended. Even all 10 of Scott's Band of Brothers episodes were in 2001 - before American Dad aired.

I'm not even arguing over the "size" of the star. Decent and good actors are - above all - working actors and won't turn down a role if it gets them paid. (Looking at you Jeremy Irons in D&D.) I'm just saying that in KotH, you can probably check appearances by how much the guest star was working at the time.

Heck, remember Jeff Goldblum had a character? His episode was 2002.

See? Not exactly a lot going on at that time. (though with that stuff you always have to kind of calculate on a curve - just because something released in year X doesn't mean the actor was working on it that year - they might have been working on it a year or two earlier)

And with a lot of your examples (don't have the time to work out everybody's work history, sorry), their voice acting seems to be occurring mostly when they are less in demand. With notable exceptions like Mila.

The jokes are obvious, often downright stupid. "Everyman, Texas who thinks Real America of John Wayne is still a thing learns about gay people and new agey things" like how is that funny after the billionth time..maybe in 1998 but its overplayed now.
Not to mention the animation is fucking horrible. It is weird as i like mike judges other stuff

I've rewatched the episode where Hank meets his new friend Hal, and that's another character he hasn't shown up since his sole appearance.
Yeah well that was a sad reality pre-internet & cell phones. If you made a friend and then at some point stopped seeing them at a certain point that was kinda it you never saw each other again.

It wasn't like Hal was going to be calling Hank's house at night like a boyfriend. Nowadays we can stay in indirect contact via cellphones and texts.
