Wasn't this the main complaint with Far Cry 2? That it wasn't video gamey enough?

I love Far Cry 2 for the environment and the buddy system, but I can see how fucking annoying it is to most people.
Infinitely respawning checkpoints full of assholes you can't drive around, the secret mission nonsense, and the fact the endings all suck.

That said, I will say the series arguably peaked at 4. The overall gameplay was better than 3, even if the story wasn't as solid.

Skill issue.

And from what I've heard and seen of 4, all anyone ever talks about is Pagan and nothing else. Not a good sign. Guess I'll figure it out for myself if I ever play it.

Yeah, Far Cry 4 played better than 3 in every way. The only people that bitch about it are people who either don't like Far Cry or were "video game story" faggots who still had boners for Vaas I think.

Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?
Think I already watched this. Did not need to be two hours long. I'll say everything wrong with Far Cry in a couple of sentences.

The original game was a tech demo, its remakes and sequels to those remakes were meh, 2 is where it finally began to find its niche, and 3 is where it all came together. After 3 is where it fell apart. Nearly everything was copy-pasted from it with far shittier results, save gunplay and setting. Instead of innovating, they stagnated and rotted.

i find people harder for pagan min than vaas
I like Far Cry 4 but I didn't like Pagan Min. He's superficially entertaining, but his character doesn't seem fitting at all for a former royal bodyguard/dictator, and I think that's part of the appeal (he acts playful and laid-back, but just because you subvert something that does'nt make it good.

I don't like Joseph Seed either, though, they nailed the cult leader look but aside from that I don't see the "charisma" everyone goes on about (don't see it with Dutch from RDR2 either).

Someone around here called Far Cry 6 a Just Cause game, and while I never played 1-3, I can see a clear progression where it seems like it went from a pulpy Danger Island game about survival to focusing more on a sort of "extreme sports with guns" vibe and then finally made the transition into "FPS Just Cause."

And that doesn't even have to be bad, cringe aside FC6 sounds great, but if you reinvent your franchise three times it's going to piss off at least two groups. AssCreed did a similar thing where its vision for itself was a jumbled mess of constantly changing ideas.

Far Cry was fine gameplay wise before 6 (the ammo system is complete dogshit and ruins the game IMO). People say it was too copy/paste, but I'll never understand that reasoning since every game added onto the previous game with new additions to the gameplay loop and had vastly different maps. And if we factor Primal and New Dawn into the mix I *really* don't see it.

I don't see it, outside of the fact that Far Cry 6 is about a civil war/revolution.

Just Cause 2 and 3 were a lot more fun than Far Cry 6 and had a lot more "fuck around" stuff going on.

I've said it before I'm sure, but I don't get people who praise Far Cry stories. I guess Vaas was...okay for the time? He's always been overrated IMO. Fun villain but not some icon by any stretch.

But Far Cry stories suck balls and are just flavor to get things going, which is great for a video game but it felt like with 5 and 6 Ubisoft began listening to redditards and took themselves too seriously.

Pagan Min is like Handsome Jack in the worst way possible. Jack's entire thing was fucking with you and it worked. Pagan actually cares about Ajay. Except Pagan is a fucking retard that doesn't take a minute or two to explain the situation and prevent the plot from happening. He bans candles, talks about celebrities, and chimes in to tell you how he's going to kill the chef for Ajay leaving because he thought he hated the crab. And Ajay never once asks or tells him anything, who we're told actually wants to help people. Even if the gameplay is an overall improvement, I don't even want to play it for that. Would rather try 2 with mods again or on the hardest difficulty.

Seed's just Not!Vaas 2 in a game filled with a bunch of Not!Vaas. There's no point in having a lecturing villain if he doesn't have one, especially if they're so far up their own ass they can't see the hypocrisy. Unironically, Vaas' introduction scene has more of a narrative purpose than any of his copycats'.

Whose bright idea was it to have scaling enemies in a Far Cry game? If I'm shooting at you with a rifle, it should do more damage than a pistol by default.
Don't forget to open every crate you see on the map so you can play Barbie dress-up with ugly-looking gear with different perks because that's what Far Cry is all about! *sigh*

It's such a shame. The whole 1960's Cuban aesthetic is a cool environment to fuck around in to me. I could ignore the stupid trans and feminist characters and just focus on the environment, but they had to go and completely fuck up the gameplay with all the RPG bullshit.

Fuck Reddit for praising that shit. Fuck them straight to hell.

How about Far Cry Primal?
I started it. Ended up fiddling with it several times before settling on Moderate difficulty Second Chance Survivor mode. People praise it to high heaven like it's a whole different game, all I see is just that the added tension makes it feel livelier. Moderate was necessary because the default for Survivor, Expert, is impossible, you can lose all your health in one hit from an arrow and the caveman WILL hit you before you hit me. The crafting is kind of crap conceptually (no feathers or flints, no, an arrow is just a stick) but they sure made things break fast enough and sticks be rare enough to be a problem. I ran out of all my stuff and ended up having to bludgeon a bear to death, terrifying, then wound up being chased by another bear with no weapons, had to slide down a vine and hide on a ledge. Felt like one of the most realistic animal chases I've seen in a game.

So far it seems kind of mediocre. I take it that the real point of the game is the animal taming and I've only just unlocked the owl. The fake language they use is laughable, you can hear the words they just stole ("tigre" for tiger, "nay" for no). It could be worse for what it is. I'd rather just have an Ancestors II.

I gave Far Cry 2 a try during downtime and got around 30% of it done before dropping it. Yes it has cool and unique concepts like weapon jamming and malaria pills but GODDAMN I JUST WANT TO DRIVE TO A LOCATION AND NOT FIGHT 5 ROADBLOCKS OF GUARDS.
