im not sure the specifics of his phone so i cant say what the issue may actually be, but if he is taking it to a place like a genius bar or something similar, those places really can rip you off. they are known to charge a bunch of money for things such as simply popping the cover off and replacing a sd card. im sure if pat shopped around he could get a cheaper estimate.

I like how in his tweets about how the phone failed to meet the waterproof specs he seems to indicate he thinks the depth of the water being three feet less is relevant.

If everything is stored on the internal storage then you'll need that phone to start up. Chances are that means you'll have to check and see where any shorts are and resolder stuff and check and see if any chips are corroded and change those out. If it still doesn't work, then you'll have to check voltages everywhere.

To play Devil's advocate for $1800 phone-buying retards for a second, whilst I only spend £200 on a phone once every 3 years, I do use a £1000 PC setup and 99% of the time I use it for stuff that a £500 version would do fine with. I know this isn't the same level of retardation but it's related and widespread enough to assume that a lot of people here do the same (maybe).
