Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Anyway, to my point, it would have to be way worse than some famous person getting mulled. At some point there will be a bunch of pit packs running around and only then will people "do something" about it. Always after its too late.

There's honestly no scarier breed than a pitbull. I suspect that that they would have opponents even if they didn't have the aggression issues simply due to how much those dogs can fuck shit up. If I were a mad geneticist who focused on dogs then I would probably breed a pitbull just like I described and sell it as a guard dog.

Pitbulls were bred to fight, they were not bred for guarding purposes and have no loyalty which is why the regularly turn on their owners.

Dude, I peaced out of this a week ago. I'm pretty dumb for trying to advocate for pitbulls in a thread about what's wrong with them but I like them for my own reasons and that's that.

I knew someone with an adorable French Bulldog that just started to have constant seizures, probably because of the deformed skull. She died. Humans need to quit cruelly creating these "cute" breeds that cause animals to live in constant torment. There is no justification for this bullshit.

If there were a human with the craniofacial deformities of these animals, nobody would think it was cute, they would think they were looking at a monster. Why do we do this to dogs?

I had a dog do this to a sheep and I've heard of other breeds doing this sort of thing to livestock, cats, what have you. The difference with pitbulls is that they obviously don't distinguish between prey animals and humans

Brachycephalic breeds are next level cruelty. The saddest thing is watching them try to get their heads into a position where they can breathe as they sleep. For many, the best rest they ever get is after surgery, when they’ve got a breathing tube in. All because round heads, flat faces, and invisible nares are ‘cute’.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are another toy breed which is almost 100% genetically wrecked. All have heart conditions and many suffer with a condition called syringomyelia, a condition which causes extreme pain and suffering ending in seizures and death. Basically the skull is too small for the brain and spinal cord, but people keep breeding them, fuck bringing in outside lines, must stick to the standard, who gives a shit about health.

I wonder if that’s what the person’s Frenchy had. It used to be unheard of in dogs.

If you’re looking for a puppy lately you’ll notice an awful lot of merles and double fucking merles, because ‘these dogs have designer coats!’ Unreal stupidity. These faggots never met a Punnett square, apparently.

You can breed for health, but it seems like a foreign concept to a lot of people these days. Fuck, even the pits get it with those toadline dogs.

I'd like to know the statistics of pitbull maulings neutered vs non-neutered, honestly. It's possible that you neuter them ASAP as puppies and extensively train them, the testosterone is culled and they could be less inclined to suddenly snap. The genetic factor is always going to be a risk, but at least you're ending that dog's bloodline. Pit-mixes may be the same way.

The breed is extremely dangerous and needs to go extinct, but I do still want to believe there are pits out there who really are/have been good boys and never harmed anyone and passed on peacefully. There's still some anecdotes about that, it's just that the pitbull owners of the past who get all defensive and feel like they have to tell their stories to "prove" #NotAllPitties act like they deserve a cookie for their efforts, and no, you don't. You were either just that good of a trainer and had the means to insure they could exhaust all that energy, or you just got extremely lucky.

Really, there's a fucking reason responsible pet owners spay and neuter their animals. If you're a breeder, it's your responsibility to make sure everything's healthy and safe so the animals don't go willy-nilly on each other without supervision. Also you should be a licensed breeder, which is a problem that it's not regulated (awful to say, but at this point...). Go look in the animal breeding horrors thread to see the madness that happens in the hood. No animal should ever have to go through that.

Just spay and neuter all the pitbull pups, or euthanize the unleashed on sight. Each path ensures some kind of quality of life for one or the other.
