Oh they definitely did, the Soviets were all about long-term planning...this infiltration project went on basically non-stop from the 1930s. They just didn't realize the Soviet Union wouldn't survive the 1980s.

My understanding of the vatnik worldview is that Poland and Slovakia are not third parties but part of the American empire. All NATO countries, and indeed many outside of NATO, are American vassals which take orders from Washington. Ukraine is also an American colony.
I don't know what our blessed Argentine Pope believes, but when people talk about the American empire, it usually means more than just the 50 states and some military bases.
