By saying this, they are essentially confirming that both personas are one and the same, which is a massive breach of kayfabe and opsec that I've never seen any other company do. Airi is of Korean descent. But you are right in that vtubing, even in the west, is dominated by Asians, of both genders. Because of its Japanese/anime roots, that's probably inevitable. The next largest ethnic groups, based on the known doxes of Vtubers we have, is white women (of both European and American persuasion), then Latina women (of all ethnic backgrounds), and finally Latino and white men. You don't really see any blacks, or either gender, despite weeb shit being common in the black community too.
Just based on this breakdown, having not watched the 20 min long vid myself, it seems like he's talking out both sides of his mouth. Very corporate. He's "disappointed" in her and the firing was totally deserved, but she's still a good person though and we wish her the best!
