Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

...literally like this? Because it's already a Mario Kart segment? What would the point be (besides money) in making a Mario Kart movie when it's just going to be this scene stretched out to an entire movie?

I guess I could see a Wacky Races-style thing working but that seems better suited to a more concise format.

Yeah, I keep waffling back and forth between "wow I'm excited" and "I'll watch it when I watch it" but I think I'm finally settling on the latter. Not to mention it's not like I'm about to haul my old ass to a movie theater alone to watch a children's film alone. That seems more like a Sonic movie's territory.
They could pull off a Cannonball Run scenario

Rainbow Road is making me fantasize about what a Mario Kart movie would look like in the near future.
On that note, there's talk of a potential Legend of Zelda movie (in addition to a Donkey Kong movie and a Luigi's Mansion movie if this film does well), and that got me thinking- would Nintendo try to build up to a Super Smash Bros. movie? Maybe even give other series (StarFox or Metroid) movie adaptations?

On that note, I would pay good money for a Kirby movie.

The Subspace Emissary was the Smash Brothers movie we never knew could be made, and it worked best how it was intended. It can never be made into an actual movie to be shown in theaters without lots of unnecessary cuts and fluff.

I hope not

Smash Bros "story" becoming a thing is cringe as hell. Hollywood does love their multiverse shit though so probably.
I could see the Paramount Sonic movies and the upcoming Metal Gear movie to be part of the Nintendo Shared Universe. But having an actual story for Smash Bros. is more of a challenge.

I'd do Smash as shorts in front of the other movies,

The entire point of Metroid is that you are Samus in the lonesome hostility of an alien world. About the best representation of a Metroid movie I can imagine would be aping the film Dredd, where Samus is presented as an already-established badass who wades into a hostile environment, barely talks, kills Space Pirates, refuses to elaborate, and leaves. Only vague hints at her backstory should be presented. Maybe give her a partner like U-Mos who is connected to the location to explain small tidbits about the alien planet.

They would never do that, they would make Samus a boss bitch who marvelsnarks at all of her enemies with the Metroid Larva as the cute little creature for toddlers to coo and squeal at every time it does something cute.

There shouldn't be a Metroid movie. Ruin Starfox and its incredible legacy of one good game and a million furries instead.

That just sounds like the least likely scenerio given that Nintendo would have control over most of that movie's production.

I think it’ll be fine, but I still feel like they’re trying to fit way too much into an hour and a half.

Already tired of the Mario and Sonic fanbase bickering, but I guess that was to be expected. Some people just don't grow out of that sort of thing.

I feel like the Kongs could've easily been the focus of the entire movie considering Mario's origins. Have Bowser be the bad guy for the inevitable sequel.

Maybe have Diddy and even Jr. as a plot point? Even throw in King K. Rool's quick cameo in the background for some foreshadowing of a potential Donkey Kong spinoff movie?

Metroid Larva is a wise-cracking sidekick voiced by a lesser Wayans

That would have been a death sentence to the movie, I reckon. Bowser's too ingrained in Mario to leave him out of the first movie. Personally, I would have Mario face DK in an opening Act 1 action scene and, kinda like in the Super Mario Bros. manual, have that be the thing that gives Toad the incentive to drag the Brothers to the Mushroom Kingdom to fight Bowser. DK will serve his historic purpose and can be used to set up The Donkey Kong Country movie.

Mila Kunis as Samus

Change my mind

Obviously I'm exaggerating, but we really have no idea how Nintendo will handle a more serious property in this sense. Zelda has only ever been adapted into a cheesy cartoon, and while both Zelda and Metroid have had manga (I recommend Samus and Joey, it's a really cheesy but fun manga where Samus is a secondary character and it works really well), neither adaptation has had mass appeal.

It's also important to note that Miyamoto is the one strictly watching over the Mario movie. While he was Executive Producer on Metroid Prime 1, he rarely has anything to do with that series, and I don't think he does much with Zelda anymore. I don't think I'd trust Aonuma or Sakamoto to have full creative control over a movie featuring their respective franchises, especially with how stupid Zelda lore is these days, and I'm still wary of Sakamoto despite how good Dread was. I'd be interested to see how a Zelda movie would be made, since I'm sure the Mario movie will be a runaway hit and they'll be looking to adapt other Nintendo properties to the big screen. A traditionally animated Zelda movie would be fucking wild. I'm expecting a Donkey Kong movie before that, though.

Once we get a little deeper in to the Nintendo movie rabbit hole I'll be more or less wary about a Metroid movie, but until then I'll just be imagining side-shave Samus wearing the helmet for the first five minutes of the movie and then never putting it back on.

Can't tell if referring to subspace emissary or not. Really I think the way that was done was pretty good but there is absolutely no way that it would make it to film with the tone Nintendo is going for here.

Subspace Emissary, World of Light

It's all pretty cringe when presented seriously IMO. Just something about all these conflicting characters fighting a bunch of hands and angels grinds my gears. That's on top of my general annoyance with multiverse shit.

But that's just like my opinion man.

I gave up on Aonuma when I found out that he thinks Majoras Mask is his worst work. And I heard a story that Sakamoto didn't understand what a Bounty Hunter actually was which made me laugh.
