None of these Twitter arguments are about helping black people, Native American people, poor people, or any other minority. It's about making the baizuo feel morally superior and score more social media points, which they then try to turn into money or political capital.

Maybe Americans associate Asians with only Chinks, but Wikipedia has a surprisingly non-discriminant list counting any actor from "Asia" as a whole. If we go by the entire continent of Asia (including people of Asian descent or hold citizenship to an Asian country but live outside of Asia), Yeoh would be like the 7th or 8th "Asian" actress nominated for Best Actress and her win would make her the fourth Asian actress to win. But that wouldn't help the narrative they're pushing now. Vivien Leigh won twice. She was born in South Asia to an Anglo-Indian family. And if you count countries like Lebanon, Israel or Armenia being geographically part of Asia, then you have people like Cher or Natalie Portman who've won.

But I see that the qualifications are calling her "Asian presenting" (as noted by the article) whatever tf that means.

Jesus dressed as a normal adult man in his time and place, so unremarkable was his look that the Gospels never bothered to describe it (unlike the look of John the Baptist). The same cannot be said of the LGBTQ+

"Asian-presenting" = slitty eyes, basically. She's the first person of East Asian descent to win an Oscar. But they're to politically correct to say that, because that would mean acknowledging that race exists. So they have to say that she's Asian-presenting, thus putting the onus on the imaginary onlooker of noticing her race, rather than their own racial obsessions.

Gendered awards is a way to even the playing field.

Many of the best, most juice parts are for male actors. (Often ou of necessity, in for example historical dramas.)

By having gendered categories, you ensure that there’s also a female winner every year.

Looks like a seed of the Current Year BS of "cultural appropriation" is the notion of "indigenous intellectual property".

Some "indigenous peoples" - likely tribal officials or lawyers living in the modern world - thought that ways of "indigenous peoples" should always be "intellectual property" of certain peoples. They thought "indigenous intellectual property" somehow "protects" those ways, and it also seems they thought "customary laws" about such ways applies beyond their tribes. In 2002, a worldwide convention even claimed the "unauthorized use" and "misappropriation" of "traditional knowledge" is "theft".

Such a notion supports the idea of permanent "intellectual property", and tries to rigidly or artificially pigeonhole certain ways. It also seems to subtly support The Narrative™ that one of a kind deemed "oppressor" is automatically responsible for the actions of others of their kind. And it also ignores that tribes likely copied "traditional knowledge" from each other throughout history - and of course that information itself is not like physical property: copying doesn't reduce it. I also doubt the notion of "indigenous intellectual property" existed before the modern world, and it likely isn't a thing with "indigenous peoples" outside civilization.
