Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

Same question I keep asking - what is it you do with a computer that TPM breaks?

Given how the TPM is designed, and works, the odds of one actually breaking is about as likely as any other random, unpredictable event to a low complexity, low use, simply designed part when it comes to a complex machine like a computer, extremely low.

He means "How does a TPM mess with anything you do?"

I will say something positive about Linux.. Plasma is beautiful and works great when its properly set up . Its a shame its such a pain in the ass to get it there.

I'm a photographer, an engineer, and a gamer. I've been told at least three times in this thread that I literally don't exist.
Also I've probably got the mix of use cases that is LEAST Linux friendly I've seen.
The only good Linux use case is if you are interested in playing with the operating system itself, with no need for reliability.

It can be used as access control. Revoke access to any software or hardware where the proper authentication is absent. That has never happened, but its possible.

I have a feeling that most people will be abandoning Windows with Windows 12. I think it is likely it will require a Microsoft Account and an "always-on" internet connection, with a grace period for intermittent loss of connection. That will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Did you ask chatgpt to give you something to trigger Linux users?

Agreed, it can and probably will be used as a tool by Microsoft to lock things down even more, even if it is transparent to most users.

Abandoning Windows in lieu of...?

What pissed me off is garbage like candy crush and my virtual pets being installed in the background on the start menu. It would even reinstall after a major update. As much as I dislike Canonical's ubuntu it really is turnkey distro with decent touch screen support.
because it's not uninstalling it, it's just hidden from your profile. the files are still there, to get rid of them for good you have to do it via powershell. good thing only in linux you need to use the command line tho...

source on the wallpaper and icons?

it's gonna be worse. remember how consoles can get their service access disabled? we all know how the TPTB hate anonymity on the internet, you WILL have your online ID tied to your hardware, and god forbid you ever shitpost too hard or express the wrong opinion. mandatory accounts tied to your phone number are basically already that.
if you think that's too far you must be obviously a nazi and anti-democratic, because why else would you complain about that?

Anyway, there's the usual pattern playing out in this thread. A linuxfag tries to convey their take on the subject and the recurring winfags all say how they can't do "their thing" on linux so it's dumb and not normie-ready, then ironically snarkpost until the linuxfag goes away for a bit. It's all so tiresome.
because lot of wintards are schroedinger's user, their requirements are so casual they absolutely never run into any issues on windows, yet have such extraordinaire requirements and such exotic hardware that linux can't even install (somehow, when it's the doom of operating systems).

What I don't understand is what's so hard to get that "most people" means the majority of the population. The 100 million+ (in the US) who make up most computer users. You seriously think most (>50%) are using Photoshop, editing videos, installing graphics cards, etc?
which is the other thing. even if linux would be absolutely fine for most wintards, you immediately get OMG I NEED PHOTOSHOP TO CROP IMAGES and I CAN ONLY WRITE BASIC BITCH LETTERS IN MICROSOFT WORD. it's not even getting used to another software which already does more than they'd ever need, it doesn't have the brand name on it, so might as well not exist, and if it does it's shit. ironically boomers have an easier time switching since they don't understand any of it anyway and just need certain software do what they want, for them it makes zero difference if they read their mails in thunderbird or outlook.

another thing to consider: almost every linuxfag used or still uses windows, either because they need to or prefer it for certain tasks, and there's nothing wrong with using the right tool for the job. how many wintards who cry over linux ever actually used it besides maybe running a live-cd? which either means they have no fucking clue what they're even talking about and/or are so pleb-tier users like any facebook grandma they won't need anything other than MS' buttplug OS anyway...

and the worst of it all is probably that they're not even aware of how shit some aspects of windows are, like all the little "wat" moments you mentioned and people either don't notice or not care about, but suddenly are a big deal whenever they try linux - which either makes them disingenuous, retarded or both.

The good ol "I couldn't figure this little thing out so Linux sucks!!!" bit. It really isn't the own they think it is kek

Linuxfags have been predicting this since XP. But surely Windows N+1 is the version that's finally going to do it for real.

This is the first time we've actually agreed in this thread.

This is a thread about personal computers. Try to keep up.
Windows server isn't a Microsoft product? It's not under the umbrella of "Windows"? Please forward this information to Microsoft also since they seem to be unaware of this too. Both operating systems compete for server and desktop. Both operating systems use largely the same technology to accomplish these tasks. Comparing them for server use is fair game.

If the websites that claim to track operating system usage by device on the internet have any semblance of accuracy, their data indicates that when Microsoft puts out a new version of Windows people don't like/want/can't run do to lacking a chip on their motherboard they don't abandon Windows for something else.

They just refuse to update Windows. It happened with 8/8.1, and it's happening again with 11 to a lesser degree.

I'm not here to defend Microsoft's honor. I just want a computer to do what I want, so no it's not fair game. I'm not running servers.

This happens every couple of pages. Somebody points out that Linux has had 30 goddamn years to get any market penetration with a free product and the butthurt spergs inevitably resort to "BUT MUH SERVER".

Super. Great. Wonderful. I'm sure Linux is amazing for servers, but people will literally pay money to not use it on desktop.

And yet you can run 90%+ of Windows application software on Windows server. Of course on Linux there isn't a meaningful distinction except maybe your distro (and even that's debatable unless we're talking about arch). So yes, Linux is fair game in comparison of desktop operating systems. Too bad about your computer not doing what you want it to do. I'm glad you're happy with Microshaft though.

Chrome OS outsells OS X. But I guess that's considered obscure these days.

I don't understand your point. I could be using Microsoft server now. Great. I couldn't be using Linux.
