This is also reflected in Hogwarts Legacy. Girls can't get into the boy's dorms and vice versa, the most unique one being Ravenclaw where there's a duo of enchanted knight's armour blocking off the girl's dorm stairwell with spears.

Pretty sure it was only the boys that couldn't go into the girls. Hermione was able to go into the boys at least. Unless Hermione was a Tif all along.

Haven't played hogwarts legacy other than seeing a few beginnings of play throughs (null seemed to enjoy it more than any of the hp fans I watched lol) but am I right in thinking once you choose the dorm you can't go in the opposite genders dorm? If so, why haven't the troons picked up on this clearly genderfluid-phobic issue? And why is there no non-binary dorms???

My first male character, I tried to go up one staircase only for it to turn into a slide which reminded me that "oh yeah, the girls' dorms are up there". My female character could freely enter the boys' dorms without question. I never even tried on the latter until you mentioned it and I just had to load up the game to find out. They did a fantastic job with keeping to the established lore, really.

As it says, girls can go to the boys dorm, Hermione shows up there several times in the books.

I actually wonder whether there was never any follow-up about that, a la "Dumbledore is gay". I never really followed all the post-book explanations Rowling talked about, but I think she answered quite a lot of questions by fans. But if there was anything, I'm sure someone would have brought it up by now. Though when HP fandom was at its greatest, nobody cared about troon shit.

Off the top of my head, Ginny sneaks into the boys' dorm room to try and find Tom Riddle's diary when she thinks Ron has it, Hermione wakes Ron and Harry up on Christmas and Crookshanks nearly eats Scabbers, and Lavender gets paranoid about what Hermione and Ron were doing one-on-one in the boys dorm room (because Harry is wearing an invisibility cloak) and dumps him over it.

I'd imagine in-story the logic is basically just that horny teenage boys are far more likely to get up to trouble sneaking into the girls' room (this is obviously a magical universe where people can turn invisible or disguise themselves as others) whereas girls aren't likely to do anything untoward, and I'd imagine it'd maybe apply to teachers too (so naturally a male teacher shouldn't go into the girls room, but a female teacher or nurse may have just cause to go into the boys' - I'm pretty sure this is a rule that applies at British boarding schools now).

Gamewise the character creation screen is essentially non binary (no traits or outfits are gender locked) but at the end you either pick "witch or wizard", which then cannot be changed. Even super duper inclusive games like The Sims that let you customise your sim in any way and set their pronouns runs into this limitation (lesbian sims will reject she/her male sims) for very obvious reasons.
