Brianna Ghey's body was found on a path in Linear Park in Culcheth by members of the public at 3.13pm on Saturday

A 16-year-old girl has been stabbed to death in a “targeted attack” in a Cheshire park in broad daylight, police have said.

Officers named the victim as Brianna Ghey, who was found by members of the public as she lay wounded on a path in Linear Park, Culcheth, just after 3pm on Saturday.

A 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, both from the local area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Locals paid tribute to the “beautiful” teenager who was described as a “very quiet” person.
Detective Chief Supt Mike Evans of Cheshire police described it as a “targeted attack” during a “busy day” at the park.

“This is a truly awful attack on a 16-year-old girl, who has sadly lost her very short life,” he added.
It is understood that Brianna was born a boy but had been living as a girl for a number of months.

Police say that they do not believe the crime is related to the fact that the teenager is transgender and there is currently no evidence to suggest it is a hate crime. Officers said that they were keeping an “open mind” as to the motive.

Sources told the Telegraph that it remains unclear whether the killer was known to Brianna, but they are treating her death as an isolated incident and they do not believe that there is any risk to the wider community.

Emergency services were called to Linear Park in Culcheth by members of the public at 3.13pm yesterday, Saturday 11 February 2023, after Brianna’s body was found on a path. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that the weapon used in the attack has not yet been found.
Brianna's family are being supported by the police.

The teenager had a number of social media profiles and thousands of followers, frequently posting videos miming pop songs whilst in school uniform.

Emma Fortune, who works in Valli Opticians in Birchwood, said Brianna and her mother had been customers of theirs since she started working there seven years ago.

“I last saw them last year,” she said. “Brianna looked gorgeous with her hair down and her make up. Her little face lit up when I told her how beautiful she looked.

'Her mum will be devastated'

‘When I found out she’d been killed it was awful. I was so upset. Her mum will be devastated.”

Residents said they heard that park visitors were asked by police who attended the scene whether they had seen a man “in a green jacket”.

A man said he’d seen police vehicles arriving at the scene, which remained cordoned off on Sunday night as a forensics team combed an area of the park.

Cheshire Constabulary said officers were called to the park at around 3.13pm on Saturday
He said: “The park is very popular and is used by dog-walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

“It’s an old railway track with one main path that branches off further down. Kids sometimes go down at night with bottles of alcohol.

“But this is a quiet area normally, so it’s a bit of a shock this has happened.”
Detective Chief Supt Evans said they were “keeping an open mind and would continue to follow other lines of enquiry that appear”.

He said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the park from around 1.30pm until 4pm yesterday or anyone who may have seen Brianna in the hours leading up to her death. We would ask people and businesses within the local community to check any CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that may aid our investigation.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we are working hard to find those responsible for Brianna’s death and we have extra officers in and around Culcheth supporting the investigation. We also have officers supporting Brianna’s family at this really tragic time.”

Image dump. Found some instagram bullying posts about Ghey.

included is people holding tranny flags that look exactly how you expect them to
Man, at least put some effort in. The one on the left is obviously freshly opened and unfolded, you couldn't have ironed it and found a pole to tie it to and carry? Their whole "solemn and grumpy" act is deeply undermined by how low effort this shit is.

The one in the middle still has wildly obvious factory sealed creases as well. If Josh released an anti-trans flag, best believe that bitch wouldn't have a single factory sealed crease in it when I brought it to an event.

Instead of flowers, Brianna’s family had asked for donations to the charity, Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP). MiSP delivers training for teachers and builds lessons for children with the aim of helping pupils navigate difficulties in life.
Interesting that donations to Mermaids or other trans orgs were not requested and in favour of a children’s mental health charity. Almost as if his family knew being trans was a symptom of something else.

Bold of you to assume such a delicate lady irons anything. Also it’s the crappest of polyester so it would melt on any warm setting.
Further reinforcing their love of shallow imagery with no inherent value or worth. Much like the copy pasta/pic combo of a headstone barely covered by a cheap and tawdry flag that you can read the 'deadname' (lmao) through.

Has there been any news of the actual motive yet, or is it still presumed without evidence to be HOWWID EVIL TWANSPHOBIA!!1! ?

Motive isn't evidentially relevant in English criminal law. But there will be some sort of story told at the trial. Personally I'm hoping it's a casual "we poked her/him/it for the lulz" of the type so popular amongst the yutes here

I have never understood why people attend funerals of people they did not know. Or as in this case when the first time they had ever heard of the person was when they had been killed.

I can, at least to an extent, see it when the person that had died was famous.
In the old traditions it was because someone should be there for the funeral. No matter the sins in life. Someone, the community, should bear witness.

In this case it is pure performative virtue signaling.

Thought I caught a mention about this recently

One of two teenagers accused of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey has pleaded not guilty.
The transgender girl from Birchwood, Warrington, died after she was found with fatal stab wounds in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February.
Two 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl, who cannot be named due to their age, were charged with her murder.
Only one of the defendants entered the plea at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court in a brief hearing earlier.
Reporting restrictions prevent the identification of which of the defendants entered the plea.
Parents of both teenagers, who appeared separately in the dock, were in court for the hearing.

Mrs Justice Yip told the court: "It's a case in which I know emotions are likely to run high, that's very understandable. There has been a lot of publicity about it already.
"We're going to make sure that this case proceeds in a calm manner in court in a way that is going to be entirely fair to everybody."
A further hearing will be held on 4 October.
A trial has been set for 27 November and is expected to last three weeks.

The girl, from Warrington, and the boy, from Leigh, are both currently held in secure accommodation.
Thousands of people attended candlelit vigils across the UK after Brianna's death.

In a tribute, her family described her as "beautiful, witty and hilarious".
They said she was "strong, fearless and one of a kind" with a "larger-than-life character".
Helpful reporting. No clarification if the other entered a guilty plea. Time for the gossip rags...damnit they seem as restrained.

If it's a standard issue stabbing I hope they get the jail time too many of these cases do not. If there's more to it then I hope all parties get justice.
