In yet another merch issue, they photographed the wrong version of the "tech sack" for their website.

I'm just saying, for my welding equipment, you promise pockets, I expect pockets. How is a cheap equipment bag from Walmart able to do more than a bag well more than double, Linus? Did he even include a * on the product page saying "prototype, product will differ", something to that effect?

This why you mark your prototypes as prototypes, prevents the sales people from getting it mixed up with the final product.

It has the LTT logo and is sold on LTTstore dot com, THAT is how it is able to do more.

Nope

That description feels like it's breaking some sort of consumer protection law. You label prototypes as prototypes or you end up in the Fallout 76 situation

My only question is who is that for? If you "work in tech" and by that I mean do maintainer shit, you probably already have your own bag/kit... that you rarely use because 80%-90% of tech problems are users being dumb. The only people who'd need actual bags/kits are when you're doing actual installation, running cables, and the like. Once everything is in place, your bag just sits there and makes you feel like you're more important than you are, because once upon a time you wired this entire place and felt like a God... now you're just a password resetting bitch.

The big thing from this episode was the Retard moment you saw earlier, but other things were:

-they had to change the name of the gay pouch to something else because the name was trademarked, a vote was done and it's now the Tech Sack. Linus is also going to partner with Mod Mat to make a new LTT brand mat.

-at 1:48:00 they introduce a 3D Down Jacket, with the "down" material being some 3D made thing, it's 250 bucks, very little branding on it.

-at 2:28:30 Luke is officially back at LMG as CTO (he's still also doing his Floatplane stuff). It seems like he is officially being brought back in to standardize and streamline all the tech infrastructure in LTT without it being rigged up on a whim or because Jake is doing "le funny soyface" things.

-it does seem like they will be doing another secret shopper (actually their best videos outside of early tech upgrade videos), because Dell came back to them to say they completely revamped their sales process. But they said that after the first secret shopper and it was just as bad as the second time around with pushy punjabs and inferior computers.

My only question is who is that for?
You know the answer. Braindead fans who sometime take their gaming laptop outside and need to bringer a charger and a mouse. Most importantly, who have 200-300 USD to waste

This why you mark your prototypes as prototypes, prevents the sales people from getting it mixed up with the final product.
It is also why you don't just hire people who don't have any experience. Everyone will make mistakes, and it is easier if someone with experience can teach them to avoid basic mistakes.

I followed Linus for a limited time; was LTT always making so many mistakes? Also watched a couple of minutes of a video linked here a few pages ago and all I can say is that Taran would never!

Haven't been on the farms in a while, really funny to see a Linus thread come around after I made this post last year. I'm surprised to see how quickly he's turning into a full blown cow.

I think most of Linus's problems would be solved if he could just shut his fucking mouth. First, he's not as smart as he thinks he is. Second, there was an old video on the LTT channel (which I just tried to find but couldn't) about how the company avoided controversy by essentially not replying to bait. Interesting to see Linus do a complete 180 on this policy and get himself into trouble constantly now because of it.

Something I finally got around to Google. Jon (Martin, apparently) has been an employee for many years, and he lives in the US. He is definitely working remotely... I am confused on the Reddit post about the idea that remote working will be eliminated??

Also, ouch, it was a rough 6 years

LTT was never a big boy operation and every attempt at trying to pretend to be one fails. I really don't know why they bother, their bread and butter is in churning out generally uninformative videos and getting proud "nerds" to part with their money.

Nearly a decade ago there was some charm to Linus's clumsiness, flubs, and low quality productions and there weren't many doing anything like it. Now? Eh....

As in... Gamers Nexus? Or some other company?

I started this thread since I noticed people were talking about Linus on various threads all around the forum so I decided to start a thread so that there's a dedicated spot for it, since I also wanted to discuss his dumbfuckery, and to do that I made a very low effort OP based off of what I personally knew of LTT, just to have an excuse for a thread.

Fast forward a few months later and the thread is over 100 pages long and is in dire need of a more comprehensive OP so that it can be moved to IF. I'm yet to finish that but it's already looking better than what I initially whipped up. Maybe I'll find more motivation to work on it next week or something.

Gotcha! So the numbers of mistakes is about the same, while it should have decreased as it became an actual company and not a couple of dudes working out of a kitchen

(Ignoring how LTT started as something funded from an actual company)

I get the impression from Linus that he lies to himself and thinks the incompetence on display is just for laughs, played up for the camera, while it remains even once the videos have ended. He LARPs at having this "actual company", a "professional environment" he will say, but I am sure it is dick jokes 24/7 and "king of the nerds" posturing from the various cast members

The number of mistakes are increasing, not because Linus is getting dumber or something, but because the scope of what they are doing is increasing and the amount of things they don’t know they don’t know along with it.

Outside of that the quality of their videos is decreasing because they’ve had ten years of making videos and, beyond shallow reviews, this means they have done a lot of the low hanging fruit light entertainment already - much like how the quality of Mythbusters decreased because they had busted all the good myths.

They also make so many videos that they are, essentially, a content mill. That’s not the environment to truly develop good ideas and interesting videos.

The editing getting dumber is, I believe, just a stylistic change to appear to retards who are making up an ever increasing percentage of their audience.

LMG was incorporated in North Carolina for a period so that he could work for that branch directly (solves issues with working for international companies, etc..) but that was de-registered not long ago, not sure what is happening now but it appears he still works for them in some capacity. Maybe they realised it was not necessary and is just working for the WA or CA entity instead

Yes, looking at the dates involved here it's strange, I haven't been on KF for long and just assumed that Linus has been a well-known low IQ / high self-esteem retard nigger faggot for many years (because he has to me), but yeah I see now that this thread is shockingly new.

The difference is expecting a hobbyist (or other term) to a professional. Linus in his kitchen doing flubs and dropping shit, he's by himself or with a friend and telling his wife and kids he's busy making videos, it's allowed. Linus owning two industrial buildings, throwing millions of dollars of shit around and what-not; you expect a certain level of professionalism (as much as I hate that word); if you want that, Taran's made a couple of 4+ hour long videos on how to edit that has more professionalism and what-not compared to damn near anything Linus's team puts out. It also doesn't help that with how entrenched technology has become with daily life and the explosion of the tech sector; his tech tips are less tech tippy... and you have spergs like me see him fuck around with data center level solutions and fuck them up, and get close to being mad at the Internet. Because who, outside of national governments, conglomerates or a Saudi Prince is gonna have a 4PB file server? Thanks for the tech tip of knowing you're getting to fuck around with toys that not a single one of your viewers will be able to use.

Well, the Internet Archive has like over 200 petabytes of storage, but that's Internet Archive.

What does one man with such a small operation need with that kind of storage anyway?
Linus needs it because he has an autistic obsession on keeping all of the raw 4K/8K footage for all the videos his company ever produced archived and constantly available for editors.
I want it because I'm a filthy data hoarding fuck, and if I could afford it I would have it.

My laptop has the ability to accept a M2, I'd like to put a terabyte in if I ever decide to fully upgrade my mediocre little Intel HP Pavillion, with 16 gigs ram and everything but I'm sorry man, you're a great guy, but I can't match that tism. Gunpla is a different matter lol. I just think it's a waste of money and takes a shit ton of drives off the market

What bugs me about LTT storage is that they're setting up a high speed storage as a long term storage. So that's why the lose a lot of data every few years and when people brings that to them on the forums, they shit on the person claiming that they're pro or dodge the question.

The way that Linus setups his storage is by using big disk arrays with little redundancy. For example, IIRC, he uses pools of 10 drives where 2 is redundancy besides that he uses very big disks and from the same manufaturer.

A problem with that is that calculating the parity with big pools takes a lot of time and a rule of thumb in the storage space is that for you to expect others drivers to fail "soon" after the first one fail after a few years if they are from the same batch, so he's wearing down weared drivers when he's recalculating parity to them. That's why you see datacenters like akamai, backblaze and others mixing drivers from different batches and manufacturers on their arrays.

Another problem is the lack of monitoring, they had 2 failures and in every single one of them, they didn't setup a alert system(send an email, telegram/slack message, ...) that something is wrong and with their setup this is problematic.

If I was Linus, I would do one of this things for the setup, use a in house LTO racks(I forgot the name in english), setup some kind of cold HDD storage with RAID 1 or pay for a cold storage on Amazon or Backblaze
