Valve introduces Steam Deck

got xenia working on the deck, and red dead has so far been playing very smooth and without issue. I'm unsure of any other games as I have no other 360 roms.
Do you have a guide that you followed? Installed emudeck and got Last Odessy, but then I learned it's Xenia wasn't play ready.

To all the owners of the Deck: What are your thoughts on it since we've hit the year anniversary?
I'm happy with it. I also mostly use ot as an emulatiom center and is awesome there. I also play a lpt of double A games, got Atelier Rorona recently and hope to play between desktop and deck depending on the moment of the day.

I don't have the Steam Deck but there's a fork of Xenia called Canary that has a bunch of patches that make RDR run really good on PC.

Is it possible to install windows 11 since as someone who wants to switch to pc but is a poorfag.
you're still paying for the mobile option with no upgradeability (=more expensive in the long run).

if you're a poorfag get a low-tier cpu/board/ram+gpu, with some higher quality psu/case, hook that shit up to a tv and you now got the console experience with none of the bullshit. then down the line you can slows upgrade components (or save and go mid-tier directly, most people don't really need anything more anyway).

Can you recommend any specs i need for a mid tier pc ( beefy mid tier pc )

Ryzen 3600, any AM4 motherboard, 16gb DDR4 RAM and whatever graphics card you can reasonably afford. Bonus points if you get a motherboard with a M.2 slot but honestly there's barely any real time difference between that and a regular SSD.

I got a RX6800 card and upgraded to 32GB of RAM and honestly I feel like I'm sorted for the next 5 years easy. Everything I throw at it runs great in 1080p because more FPS > higher resolution.

May I ask what kind of average framerates do you get in Armadillo? On my PC when I'm in Armadillo it's about 40-50FPS with an i5-12400 and a GTX 1060 6GB at 1x rendering.

It's not a "fork" per se, but rather an experimental branch of the main Xenia project. This is a common software development concept, where the canary branch gets all the code updates as soon as they're made so they can be tested faster to make sure they can be safely merged with the master branch, and that's exactly what Xenia Canary is. It's a branch that gets all the latest code updates, and that also means it can get really buggy from version to version.

However the thing I like the most about the canary builds of Xenia is that this is the branch with improvements to the audio engine. On the master Xenia branch you have some awful audio delay because of the devs not focusing on that, but on the canary build it's been improved significantly.

pretty steady 60 but I'm running it with the 480p patch

Yeah honestly I don't even like sacrificing the already low visual fidelity of the game for more FPS like that. The game already looks rough on the native 1x rendering, and dropping it down to 480p makes it look like this. So what if I have stable 60FPS when the game looks like shit?

Then again maybe it's less noticeable when playing on a Deck. But for me it would be a complete deal breaker. I'd rather sacrifice some FPS for better visuals.

depends on your budget, how fast you want it and how long you wanna keep using it. if you play in 1080p that should be fine (and cheaper) for a while.

what I wouldn't cheap out on is case and PSU. fractal design isn't cheap but it's something you can put in your living room without your SO throwing a fit and will always be reusable, a good PSU is worth it's price and will stay with you for a long time (I think seasonic has a 10 year warranty).

after that initial investment you can upgrade piecemeal which was always the best feature of being a mustard. either CPU/board/RAM (if it works together sell it together, less headache) or GPU. maybe CPU/RAM (unless you fall for intel's bullshit), but the AM4 is already superseded so a less recent AM4 board without fancy features and a 6 core should be enough for a start. then in a year or two a new GPU or a b550 board with a 59xx ryzen once everybody is on am5 with a 8xxx
you could start even lower and go with an APU so you can save on the GPU, but I'm not current on speed, features or viability. or buy something used, although I personally would only do that from people you trust.

That's surprisingly tempting for such a small discount. I really want to get it, but I told myself I wouldn't buy one until I finished all of my Switch games.
Why not just get one and emulate those switch games with yuzu on deck? Unless you need the online function like a Pokémon the offline play would be superior on steam deck.

I'd say that's a good idea because in my experience my Switch is just a dust magnet because I'd rather play on the Deck and kill time with countless retro games and my Steam library which is just fucking huge because I subscribe to Humble Bundle feeling that paying $13 for several games a month is just affordable luxury.

And God unless Platinum games miraculously patched Bayonetta 3 to have acceptable frame drops I just can't stand the Switch anymore and its archaic hardware. This isn't me being some douche performance snob no game should fall under 30 FPS I don't know how we put up with Goldeneye 64 but those days are long gone.

Anyway I definitely don't think the Steamdeck is sign of Nintendo being in any trouble, unless Microsoft or Sony just decided to make competition and I doubt they will because they're too busy fighting over the traditional console market. To me the Steamdeck has killed the high end entertainment laptop. And in my opinion good riddance because Laptops beyond budget models gave me nothing more than extreme buyer's remorse.
