I don't think that's entirely true. Chris got fired from Wendy's in 2001. He took college courses until his graduation in 2006, aside from a one year suspension. Bob would not have pushed Chris through a CADD degree if he didn't think Chris could have made something with his life.

Usually, repeat offenders come from lower class/broken home life, and are likely higher because of drugs/violent backgrounds. But Chris has lived in a middle class structure for the entirety of his life. The reason why he's a statistic to himself just goes back to poor parenting, and ill preparation to the real world. Chris is afraid to delve into that because he can't get out of his comfort zone. Plus, he thinks he's too good to be an ordinary person, living an ordinary life. If Chris didn't have the 'tism, he may have gotten into drugs or other petty crimes and become your typical white trash crook.
His parents may have had at least lower middle class money, but he didn't grow up in a normal middle class environment, where he would have had normal activities with other children, appropriate mental health care, and not lived in an insane labyrinth of Barbage to the point the house was worse than what a poor person would normally endure, with much of the living area completely obliterated.
