If only it were that simple...it actually isn't. For example WLS patients almost always plateau for a few weeks at about 3 weeks post op, when they are still on very low calories (they can't even have solids by that stage). The human body likes equilibrium in many things, and weight is one of them. Starvation diets will seriously slow down metabolism, hence weightloss is not a linear thing. There will be ups, downs, and plateaus even if a person is strictly following a calorie deficit.If you adjust your calories as you lose weight, you won't plateau. Plateaus happen because you hit the point where how many calories you are consuming become the maintenence calories for your new weight.
