Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Correct me if I'm wrong, but - isn't depleted uranium consists mostly of U-238, which is not very radioactive?
Sure as hell it's a heavy metal, and will give you a nice poisoning if you huff it, but cancer? You'd be dead sooner from kidney failure or some other nasty shit.

You'd have to inhale the power as the projectile impacts something, or eat the power.

Otherwise, you can handle it all day long

Yes, there is heavy metal contamination, but are you drinking in the puddles next to a tank. The wind can't carry too far.

If it's so benign then there's no problem if Russia ships the stuff over via diplomatic bag and releases it in Washington or Whitehall right?

Explosives shortage threatens EU drive to arm Ukraine

Defence industry officials say Europe has a limited supply of explosives such as gunpowder, TNT and nitrocellulose which are necessary to produce shells. “The bottlenecks for our capacity are mainly [explosive] powders, which are in short supply all over Europe,” said one. “It’s not possible to increase, in a short time, nitrocellulose [production] . . . In Europe there are no important producers of the raw materials we need,” said Hynek, referring to a main ingredient of gunpowder. “If I want to increase production of gunpowder I need probably three years.” Explosia, a Czech state-owned manufacturer that is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of explosives to ammunition factories, told the FT that its production of propellants used in 155mm artillery is “running at full capacity” and would not be increased until 2026.

Goddamn I didn't realize it was this bad. They can't manufacture artillery that last long enough. But that's okay they can't even manufacture ammo for them.

Poland is really that yappy dog that pisses itself after barking. Such shamefur dispray.

They are all bark, no bite. "Sure let the nuclear apocalypse happen as long as no nuke drops on poland pls, we don't want to be hurt uwu."
It's even funnier because apparently polish army 2 years ago ran a simulation of russian attack, and it turns out the invincible Eternal Polack would capitulate in... 5 days. And they expected to hold for just 22.
Their response when it leaked? "Hurr vatnik propaganda".

(This article is from leftist journoscum site that also said "we got our hands on one of brand new rifles polish army bought, we fired 20 magazines one-after-another and it overheated, how could it happen? It must be dogshit", so take it with a grain of salt)

Where did you read "benign" in any of those posts?
Not a direct quote, I'll grant but a characterisation. A lot of confidence about how unless it's drunk from a puddle next to a tank or huffed like nitrous, it's fine, which is what my reply was directed at.

I have friends that served in the Polish army. Much of the so called vaunted modernization is nothing but headlines in most areas of the Polish armed forces.

With the training of personal being pretty fucking abysmal.

So where is this massive, Steiner like counterattack?
steiner-mein-fuhrer.gif

Schweinerenko couldn't amass enough men. The attack did not take place.

I thought America was afraid sending DU-based weaponry to Ukraine because there is a risk of it being captured and reverse engineered. Russians collect shit tons of western ammunition abandoned by retreating AFUs and they already studying acquired HIMARS rockets.
I guess Britbongs in their infinite wisdom decided that it's good idea to send some DU ammo to also be abandoned and picked up by Russian forces for reverse engineering.

Russian Metal Gear? When will we see this bad boy in action?
On this note, have anybody really saw T-14 in action, at all?
It is not known publicly which units operate T-14, or in what numbers. It is a state secret. They were not sent to Ukraine though.
This is a prototype, they didn't have any ready to combat...
Is your shithole of a thread so bad you have to come here? I thought you despised all the vatniks.

The Russians don't need DU rounds they use Tungsten for their AP penetrators instead. Which is actually denser than DU but costs more money, it doesn't have pyro or self sharpening properties though. The Russians first looked at DU penetrators after the Yom Kippur war in 1973 between Israel and the Arabs, as the Jews put it to good use and it was the first real combat data on it, but decided to stick with tungsten while the US adopted DU in the early 1980's.
Depleted Uranium ammunition has been around for a while it's not some fancy new invention lol.

The Russians do actually produce some DU rounds for their 125mm tank guns but aren't stupid enough to dump the shit all over Europe like NATO apparently is.

On the dangers of Depleted Uranium its fucking bad. The Rounds themselves are fairly non toxic, but once they hit a target they self ignite spreading toxic gases and shards + powder over a fairly large area. They also shear off some material while traveling down the bore of the barrel (hence the danger to vehicles crews).
It's also a lot of DU per round (680mm length and 4.6kg in weight) not just the tip like on a AP bullet etc, we're talking a solid rod of DU like this :

This guy was one of weapon inspector from Iraq and ended up fucked from DU poisoning after serving over there in a non combat role...The picture is a screen shot from a documentary called Beyond Treason which I highly recommend you all watch as it covers a lot of important information.

A lot of our guys in Iraq came home and ended up permanently disabled from DU poisoning from posing on top of destroyed Iraqi armoured vehicles (not knowing the dangers) or being close to where 25mm DU had been used extensively (clearing buildings etc). The problem was also confounded by the sand and dry weather. Depleted Uranium material would carry with the sand on the winds causing it to spread everywhere eventually polluting the local food and water supplies. Add in low precipitation so less air moisture to help suppress the particles too. Not to mention the birth defects veterans children suffered from.

Speaking of birth defects take a look at what's happening in Iraq now a days and tell me again the stuff is A OK SAFE AS HOUSES!!!!
Just type in Iraq birth defects and click on google images and you'll see loads of fucked up shit.
Reminder we dumped over 2000 tons of Depleted Uranium in Iraq.
DU dust particles also travel around the body via the blood stream ending up in the brain and other organs (hence why it causes cancer).

So on top of Ukraine being flattened by artillery, having it's population displaced massively, it's also going to be contaminated with depleted uranium. Hope they look forward to their poisoned grain and mutated baby's thanks to the UK.

Thanks again to the thread regulars for their coverage of the war. I'd be lost with out this thread when it comes to accurate war news.

Update from last Saturday.

Overview of the Invasion

Summary

  • Ukraine has launched a large counter-offensive into Zaporizhzhya Oblast, but some of their attacks failed.
  • With Ukraine distracted in reinforcing Bakhmut, Russian forces via a large offensive stormed and captured many Ukrainian positions around Andiivka, a stronghold that has been besieging nearby Donetsk since 2014, with cracks forming in the Ukrainian defense in other fronts.
  • Cautious of an upcoming Ukrainian counter-offensive, Wagnerites slowly take more territory in Bakhmut.

Russian Armed Forces Commands

Don't focus on the meaning of the names too much; the names of the Russian command groups don't corroborate with their actual locations and directions.
  • Zapad (Запад, West; controls the Russian Armed Forces at the Kupyansk Front in Kharkhiv Oblast)
  • Tsentr (Центр, Center; controls the Russian Armed Forces at the Kreminna Front in Luhansk Oblast/northern Donetsk Oblast)
  • Yug (Юг, South; controls the Russian Armed Forces at Bakhmut and Andiivka/North Donetsk) - the most competent and efficient of the five
  • Vostok (Восток, East; controls the Russian Armed Forces at Zaporizhzhya Oblast, Vuhledar, and South Donetsk)
  • Dnipro (Днепр; Dnieper River; controls the Russian Armed Forces at Kherson Oblast)

Kherson Oblast

  • Pro-Russian source Rybar reported a 10-15 thousand strong Ukrainian force defending the northern shores of the Dnipro between Ochakiv and Nikopol (including Kherson).

Zaporizhzhya Oblast - Spring Counter-offensive

  • Ukraine has launched a large counter-offensive with forces based around Orikhiv against the Russian Army under 'Vostok' Command, with Pro-Russian source Rybar reporting the force to be composed of 40,000 troops.
  • In the west, the AFU has launched an assault in the direction of Nesterianka, but this failed.
  • In the south, where Rybar reported that Ukraine has concentrated forces in the town of Novodanylivka, the AFU has launched an offensive in a pincer movement to take the town of Robotyne supported by armored vehicles. It is reported that Russia responded with a large artillery bombardment of the assault. They are still assaulting without any success.
  • In the east, Ukraine has also launched an assault towards Russian-held Novokarlivka, but this also has failed.

Central Donetsk Oblast

Andiivka - Russian Offensive

  • As a result of desperate attempts by Ukraine to reinforce Bakhmut from the Wagnerite assault, the Russian Armed Forces under 'Yug' Command found a window while Ukraine is distracted to launch a full-fledged assault against the Ukrainian stronghold of Andiivka, a suburb north of Donetsk. Andiivka is one of the most powerful strongholds in the frontline akin to Bakhmut of which Ukraine has used it a base to shell the city of Donetsk since 2014.
  • Russian forces have made advances into areas south of Krasnohorivka (there are many villages in Ukraine with this name, which confused mappers due to changing all Russian village names to Ukrainian), a village northeast of Andiivka (several km northeast of Donetsk). They are now approaching the dumps east of Andiivka Landfill. This brings Russian infantry closer to the Andiivka Coke Plant, a massive factory that can be compared to the Azovstal Plant in Mariupol.
  • The Russian Army and DPR have also stormed across the railway and took control of the hill north of Stepove and thus entering the first buildings of the town. With the taking of the railway, Andiivka can no longer be supplied by rail from the northwest anymore. Russian regular infantry are also reported to be assaulting Berdychi, which is northwest of Stepove, and Semenivka, which is southwest of Stepove. The amount of territory controlled is a little thin, and if the AFU can mount a successful assault to recapture Krasnohorivka from the north, it will cut off Russian troops at Stepove. Despite this, the Russian Army is still on the offensive on the north of Krasnohorivka.
  • Storming of the village of Kamyanka which is south of Krasnohorivka has also commenced by Russian forces from north and east. This will force Ukrainians from other towns under assault from the Russians to reinforce Andiivka.
  • West of Andiivka, Russian forces have successfully captured a network of trenches and reached the last line of defense before the suburb of Andiivka in a combined armed assault using armored vehicles and drones. Ukrainian forces have intercepted the assault and fighting has occurred in the outskirts. The side of Andiivka the Russian Army is advancing towards is composed of commie-blocks, similar to Vuhledar, and thus, is the most fortified region of Andiivka. As a result, the Russians have launched mass artillery shellings onto this region.
  • The Russian Army are still trying to push towards Tonenke and Sjeverne, increasing the pressure, to break the defense by AFU units.
  • Following the pattern of Bakhmut, the Russian Army is likely to leave an opening instead of a complete encirclement so the AFU garrison in Andiivka won't be incentivized to desperately keep fighting.

Bakhmut

  • With the threat of a large Ukrainian counter-offensive to reinforce Bakhmut and surrounding regions looming, the Wagnerites and the Russian Armed Forces under 'Yug' Command are cautious in advancing to take more land.
  • Wagnerites took control of the area between Vostokmash and the railway in North Bakhmut, and have started entering the first buildings of Selyshche district (Northwest Bakhmut).
  • Wagnerites from South Bakhmut have advanced further towards Mariupolska Street while Wagnerites from Southwest Bakhmut are advancing towards the Avangard Stadium. Ukrainian soldiers have attempted to push them back. As a result of the small advances, the Wagnerites have created another cauldron in an attempt to push the Ukrainians to withdraw from South Bakhmut.
  • Pro-Ukrainian source DeepStateUA reports that the Ukrainians has ceded the banks of the Bakhmutovka River a bit north of the central city of Bakhmut. Wagnerites took over some of this territory, including the Stroydetal area, making AZOM Steel-Processing Plant flanked from the east. This is still when AZOM is still under assault from Wagner units from the north.
  • Suriyak reported that Ukrainian forces have launched a successful counter-offensive that pushed Russian/Wagnerite forces away from the T 0504 road between Chasiv Yar and Ivanivskye, suburbs west of Bakhmut, capturing much territory south of the T0504 road. Rybar contested this that Wagnerites still holds territory east of the canal.
  • Pro-Ukrainian source DeepStateUA reported that the Ukrainian garrison in Bakhmut is split in two by the railway line (West Bakhmut and Central Bakhmut). Ukrainian forces in West Bakhmut are more organized while the garrisons in Central Bakhmut are largely spread-out, and have a hard time communicating with each other. They don't know how much area they control and are relying on video evidence to know what's going on. Unfortunately, these videos come 1-2 days after the combat has taken place. Weeb Union believes that the Wagner Group will use the railway line to capture Central Bakhmut in which it will attempt to close it off to trap the garrison in Central Bakhmut or force them to withdraw to the Western part of the city.
  • Fighting to take Khromove, which would heavily assist encirclement of Bakhmut due to containing the O0506 road to Ukrainian-held Chasiv Yar, is currently a stalemate, with reports calling it "intense."

Siversk

  • The Russian Army and LPR has made large advances towards the village of Verkhokamyanske on the border between Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, reaching the outskirts from the northeast.
  • The AFU has made minimal gains south of Verkhokamyanske.

Luhansk Oblast / North Donetsk Oblast

  • For the first time this year, Russian Armed Forces under 'Tsentr' Command, LPR, and DPR has finally advanced towards the village of Torske, which is west of Kreminna and northwest of the Kreminna offensive, and are 1 kilometer away from reaching the first houses.
