Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I'll just come out and say it: I do not care for Paradox map painting games. EU IV is the worst game I have ever played, Stellaris's most fun game mode is the Empire Builder, and while I've never played Hearts of Iron, I imagine it's like EU but more """"""""combat"""""""" focused.
The only fun map painter is Crusader Kings 2 because the schizophrenia of medieval nobility makes court intrigue a blast, and having sex with everyone's wife is hilarious.

It's also funny to seem them have fucking meltdowns whenever anyone suggests adding a difficulty selection to the game. You know, like other games have.
Eh, I'm sure it's difficult enough, adding a "hard mode" sounds kinda tryhard.

Kratos should have stayed dead and God of War PS4 should of had a new protag.
Since Kratos is based on Hercules they should have done an arc based on the myth of Omphale. That's the one where Hercules is punished by being sold into slavery and being forced to wear women's clothes and do women's work. Perhaps in the GoW version, he could even be magically transformed into a woman. I think it would be the perfect way to show Kratos experiencing remorse for his crimes.

I can't understand why people play those games when 70% of the content is DLCs or very autistic mods.

The further back you go, the more likely the translator hired was just some guy who knew Japanese and tried his best to make it sound "right" to English-speaking audiences, rather than some keikaku-means-plan professional turboweeb who treats Japanese scripts like they're sacred religious texts.
I can imagine some poor old legless Iwo Jima veteran sitting in a wheelchair translating gay animu Final Fantasy and hentai game scripts.

Castlevania dragged the Belmonts vs Dracula plot for way too long without doing much with it, and by the time they moved unto new characters, they cock tease you by introducing Julius, the last of the Belmont clan who was actually the one who killed Dracula for good in what's being described as a grand, fierce battle...

...And you don't get to see it, lel

"Resident Evil 4 is bad because RE5+RE6 exist" is a shit take. Especially when you're pressed to explain yourself and your first statement is "Okay, so Resident Evil 4 isn't a bad game but...!"

So RE4 isn't bad, then. Gotcha

I don't get Stalker. From what people had described, I was expecting a first-person survival game and started off being diligent about gathering items and playing conservatively and all that, but it's really just a full-blown basic bitch shooter (and not a very good one). I'm playing on the second-highest difficulty level and still ending up with way more ammo and health kits than I can carry.

The tense, creepy atmosphere is really effective and I think the "Slavjank" memes are actually overstated, but it's disappointing that there's so much focus on the shooting when it's the weakest aspect of the whole game.

Good unpopular opinion. I'll butt heads with you by throwing Ace Attorney and the first two Dead Rising games on the table.
I mean I tried remembering anything that truly stuck out since those two games, and I haven't played a lot of games beyond RE and DMC in between now and then. But maybe I should clarify that it's been in a clear decline in quality the longer time has gone on.

I don't think too many sane people would disagree that the flagship single player games DMC and RE are much shittier now than they were then.

Off the Record or OG deadrising 2? Personally both were good with OTR having some extra bosses and areas and changing the story here and there compared to 2.

Forspoken would of had more success if they made the protag more attractive, give her better hair, better clothing, bigger tits, softer voice and better writing and it would have sold well. Not Elden Ring or Hogwarts numbers but would make back production costs

I consider them two parts of a whole game, though Dead Rising 2's a unique case. OTR should have been $15 DLC, but it was released as a full game, and you don't really need to play both to get a complete experience. And then there's a completely separate canonical prologue and epilogue that are stuck on the Xbox 360, just to annoy us.

Dead Rising isn't a great open world game, humor aside. I could never get into it. The world and atmosphere is great, but the game isn't grasping me.

IRK there's a whole AI factions thing that is supposed to play like a RTS with wars, armies and assaults, etc. Like the Ai is built up really well and there's a lot of variables and factors...

But you're just following a linear path and thrown right into a firefight. There's a lot of scripted events and you never notice all this thing going on behind the scenes.

The first time I encountered a mutant it was just... kinda there. And it felt really out of place; I was in the middle of a gunfight and this invisible creature just comes out of nowhere. It took me a while to figure out what's going on (it seemed to ignore ai combatants so there's no way I could have used it) so I just kinda shot it till it died. There was no reason or explanation for it to be there; nobody mentioned or acknowledged it, there was no lore or rumors about it...

Every (even nonranked) pvp game should have a mandatory tutorial section about basic strategy, IE: don't leave a flank open. Don't leave one teammate on their own expecting them to hold a flank. Be aware of your surroundings and help where needed.

I'd rather waste 15 minutes playing an extensive tutorial like that *once* than waste *HOURS* losing games because fuckheads can't be bothered to look at a map or read the "quick commands"
(because of course the developers removed actual team chat because who needs to talk strategy? AxewoundEnthusiast.ttv got called a nigger faggot in chat for being a useless cumrag of a teammate and is scarred now, so sad).

There will never be another "video game crash" despite many people predicting that for the industry today, as circumstances are far different than they were in the eighties. For one, most major gaming properties are owned by colossal corporations, who can and will eat loss after loss without issue due to their wide variety of investments and products, so it doesn't matter if they utterly ruin gaming and sell broken trash. In addition, massive investment money from globalist investment firms such as Blackrock ensures that even when these companies make products that fail miserably in all capacities, they don't actually lose any money because they were given what is effectively a zero percent interest loan in exchange for making progressive propaganda. Lastly, even if by some miracle gaming does collapse due to large corporations taking it down with them, you can almost guarantee that these corporations will be bailed out like they always are, as American industry has standardized privatizing the profits while collectivizing the losses.

Gaming, along with all other entertainment, will continue to get worse and more ideologically subverted until the big money propping it up behind the scenes collapses. The problem there is when that happens, it'll drag everything else down with it, and gaming will likely be low on the list of concerns. At best, I would foresee a revival of AA/middleware gaming coming from the more successful indie studios, assuming they don't sell out to a big corporation the moment they get an offer, but even that is optimistic.

I'd rather suffer through all the vanilla performance issues and bugs and hideous character models than try to mod Morrowind in 2023.

You either have to go it alone and just hope the random assortment of mods you choose all work together and don't break the game OR follow a pre-validated mod list often consisting of HUNDREDS of mods that have to be painstakingly downloaded, installed, and ordered one at a time from multiple different websites. And nobody can reasonably automate the process because the modding community is too autistic to cooperate on anything.

I'm sure the end result is really cool, but I refuse to put ten hours into a game before I even start playing it. Just look at this shit. The "Expanded Vanilla" modlist for OpenMW has 267 mods!

The only mod you really need is removing Cliff Racers.

I wouldn't say they were idiots. 3D programming was new, the N64's architecture was exotic, and it was quite some time before efficient microcodes were released by SGI & Nintendo. Plus, he's taking advantage of the fact that the Expansion Pak gives you an extra bus so that the GPU can access it while the CPU uses the main RAM. The single system bus was the most crippling feature on the N64.
Wasn't that new; Sega was trying to make Sonic the Hedgehog 3 a 3D game for months based off of how they did their arcade games. Naughty Dog figured it out independently and got flummoxed by Super Mario 64's appearance at Spaceworld in 1995

Just do OpenMW and then HD textures. That's all you need. I got it working in about 30 mins, and then never played again.
