The early chris sagas had this childlike whimsy about them. He had the energy of a perpetually horny 12 year old too overcome with hormones to think straight. It all felt like a bit Andy Kaufman would have made up if he'd come up during the early 2000's, only it was an actual living breathing grown ass man. He wasn't overtly menacing. If he had bad intentions he was so poorly equipped to act on them that it didn't seem like a credible threat.

I'd have liked for things to work out for that version of Chris. Like maybe he got a decent part time job, met a fellow autistic girl with similar interests, and they had a weird as fuck but happy romance. Obviously this much attention from the Internet didn't help his development, but like everything else in his life he took it in ways that no sane person would predict.

I can see how becoming an internet celebrity prevented him working. I can see how it contributed to his nonsense delusions about the merge. But raping his own elderly, infirm mother is so far outside the scope of human responses that it's hard to imagine how he justified that to himself. He completely destroyed his own life and he did it by sexually victimising the only woman who has ever actually loved him. He deserves the consequences of that.

He was always pretty creepy even in the lovequest days. Drawing SheCameForCWC and then justifying it to Megan by saying he would've raped her if he hadn't drawn it, was early on, and it lost him his gal-pal. Who, if he'd been a better friend (and a better person in general) might've introduced him to her friends and been his wingman if not his girlfriend. He told her to watch some porn to desensitise herself to sexual content, thinking that that was the issue, which implies he'd been watching it himself and thought it was a good way to learn about sex and relationships, so the coomer arc had already started long before. I think she might have been more gone than people realize simply because it's only been those few sightings, along with Chris's own words. I don't think Marvin and I know not Null ever spent significant time around Barb, so they're just going off Chris's own words.

Not to mention Chris lacks empathy and the ability to read people. For all we know, Barb was spending half the day confused out of her wits about where she was, and who this lumbering man dressed as an anime girl who was making cutesy noises was, whereas Chris, just never saw anything wrong because Barb didn't say "Chris, I'm out of mind right now, and I need help".

Digging deeper, Chris could have timed his assaults to when Barb was "out of it" and completely under his control, with Barb having no idea what was going on, but the act of sex made her remember her whore years from the past.
