Tabletop Community Watch

It's so over the top and the "actors" (the creator's friends, I'm guessing) are such broad stereotypes I'm still not sure. If it's real, there's not one person here who wouldn't improve the gene pool by exiting from it.

Seriously, tell me these games look any less absurd than this. Certainly they look less entertaining.

Scot Free was the original Steve Jackson's Illuminati.

I'm so sorely tempted to buy a copy of that game just so i can reskin it into our kiwifarms game.

Probably something of a necro, but I gotta ask; anyone cover Coyote & Crow's community in this thread yet? Because I've got quite a bit of stuff from their Discord if needed.

I don't think so. The kickstarter made a splash, generated some conversation about noble savages in the Tabletop RPG General thread, and then vanished until we found out they were begging the filthy whiteys to buy their book. So if you're got interesting material on their community, might as well post it here.

Well, it's not much, admittedly; mostly the community has been posting a fuck-ton of cringe on the Discord.

Sadly, I can't take pictures on my laptop - the damn thing is in serious need of repairs - so I'll just copy and paste a bunch of the quotes I've found. Sorry.

The very fact that Cosplay is not Consent is a thing...

Speaking of... I still find it amazing that something like Monte Cook's Consent in Gaming is less than 10 years old. I am in a space where enough people still think a consent checklist is unnecessary that it's put me off playing with people in that space. (edited)

settlers/colonizers tend to see hawaii and as an extension of that hawaiians as their playthings or maybe at best like a zoo that they can vacation in and fuck with

The Useless Philosopher — 02/05/2022 9:20 PM
My opinion, when they stop following the Teachings, they arent Indigenous any more. Sure, they can become Indigenous again if they realize the errors of their ways, but while they are colonialized, they arent Indigenous

Oh, that's easy. There is no "work week", per se. There's work cycles as far as seasonal tasks go, and then then unless you're a shopkeeper or working for a shopkeeper there is "I work until the task is done or I hit a good stopping point". Think "mañana time". Shopkeepers generally have it a bit more regimented to help serve customers, but I can guarantee that only the truly obsessive are watching the clock to make sure you show up to work on time. Or leave on time.
[1:39 PM]
And even then it probably wouldn't be unheard of for certain shopkeeps or artisans to just every now and then say "screw it, I'm done for the day" and just go fishing.

I get so tired of White folks clutching their pearls at the idea of human sacrifice or talking about how the Mexica needed to be shown more civilized ways. Meanwhile, European countries never stopped cannibalizing their own or the Peoples they colonized. (edited)

Nevermind the hundreds of years of genocide in the Americas.

Content Warning: Cannibalism, torture, and colonization practiced by Europeans

Spanish Inquisition lasted for hundreds of years (concurrent with colonization of the Americas) and killed thousands of Europeans in what were obviously religious and ritualistic torture. During the Crusades, European soldiers ate Muslim prisoners.

Europeans consumed and commodified Egyptian mummies that they stole, considering mummies as medicinal or having other special properties. Some social elite acquired mummies for their parties as part of the 'entertainment.' This use of human remains by Europeans was not an isolated one. People often attended hangings of prisoners for entertainment, but also to loot the bodies themselves as blood and other parts were considered to have special properties (medicinal and other). This is documented as happening widely in the 16th and 17th centuries, and included documented cases into the early 20th century: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-gruesome-history-of-eating-corpses-as-medicine-82360284/
From the linked article: “The one thing that we know is that almost all non-Western cannibal practice is deeply social in the sense that the relationship between the eater and the one who is eaten matters,” says Conklin. “In the European process, this was largely erased and made irrelevant. Human beings were reduced to simple biological matter equivalent to any other kind of commodity medicine.”

That does make some sense. I am still learning about Mexican history & geography because I was educated in the USA, so that means we basically learned nothing about Mexico and absolutely nothing about Indigenous Nations of South America other than "They committed human sacrifices and probably cannibalism"

Owlinstruments — 02/07/2023 4:03 PM
But really how different is that to the way they teach most history of America (which is to whitewash everything)

If it cannot produce a profit and be privatized, Capitalism does not believe it should exist

"Fascism, but people keep forgetting that it's dark humor and nobody would ever hold this up as a serious way of life ha..haha...hahahahahaha!" <Poe's Law engaged.>

The Useless Philosopher — 01/29/2023 11:02 PM
theres also slavery, neofuedualism, imperialism, and a whole bunch of other terrible shit

DancesW_Monsters — 01/29/2023 11:17 PM
Which is why 40K draws fascists to it. I won't blame anyone for liking it but it's a huge warning flag for me. The local group that's into it around my neck of the woods are barely closeted fascists. One guy carries his armies in a toolbox with Trump-as-Emperor painted on the sides.

[11:20 PM]
see, my flgs actually bans a lot of those guys from the warhammer stuff
[11:22 PM]
like, they have a "unless it is a historical model for a historical game (think like bolt action) if we see a swastika you are banned for life"

That'd be nice but they'd probably lose half their customer base if they started putting up rules like that at my flgs. (edited)

The Useless Philosopher — 01/29/2023 11:23 PM
there's also a "no politics" rule their strictly enforce. And being LGBTQ+, black, native, or anything like that isnt "politics", its just people existing.

So, wearing a pride shirt isnt considering the same as wearing a trump or maga shirt

Nice!

I'm lucky enough to live in a very liberal college town in Red State Midwest USA. Our friendly local game store is run by a friend of mine who is a Real Life Bard. Anyone stupid enough to show up with THAT kind of stuff would either find themselves talked in circles until they realize the error of their ways or get the boot for being dicks to the owner.

Believe me, this is just a small fraction of the sheer amount of shit that's in the C&C Discord. I've been following them all for a while now, and... well, let's just say I'm surprised there isn't more coverage of these guys.

Nope. Fuck the fake featherhead and his fake ass 'Solarpunk' utopian RPG.

Though, it is funny he got perma-banned by PayPal:

This true? That'd be horrifying if it was; wouldn't surprise me, but still...
I have no idea, but it'd have to be a pretty serious accusation given some of the other shit Payment Processors allow for the politically kosher.

That said all tabletop designers are the creepiest fucks you're ever gonna meet. You really don't want to know the shit that didn't get into White Wolf stuff.

You really don't want to know the shit that didn't get into White Wolf stuff.

One of the last planned series of sourcebooks for Aberrant before the whole line went into the dumpster was a trio covering the Mega-Attributes: "Brainwaves" for mental, "Brute Force" for physical, and "Cults of Personality" for social. These books were advertised and were apparently in editing when the cancellation came down. There were rumors that "Cults of Personality" was the reason for the whole damn cancellation, as the author had featured a nova or faction focused on what amounted to a superpowered kiddy diddler.

No idea if it's true, not sure if it's what you're referring to, but the White Wolf crew has been full of weirdos for decades.

Reading the arrogance of a bunch of white and mexican people LARPing as pure natives is hilarious. Especially since they somehow did something so degenerate and coomery they got kicked off a pay exchange. Rather curious what specific fetish did them in on that one.

It was probably the planned C&C&C&C
Coyote & Crow & Cha'alt Crossover also called CCCX or 3CX or CXXX. A Collaboration with Venger to bring the gonzo setting of Cha'alt to the Coyote & Crow universe. A "What if" the white-people seeking meteor tore a hole in reality and caused Europe to merge with the sleazy sci-fi gonzo world of Cha'alt. You'll need to pow-wow with your strongest braves and bring heap good medicine to keep Cha'alt's eldritch energies from gonzoing Vinland. You'll be red in the face at the savage combat against these otherworld invaders. The developers are being tight lipped but have sent up some smoke signals about expected content, including a random table of sci-fi pop culture references that will age like fine milk; numbers 8-20 are just instructions to make something up.

Also includes a free 'zine with guidance for GMs on how to bring Coyote and Crow to space by porting C&C characters/adventures into Alpha Blue.
