(Edit: Sorry for double post. I suck at this)
You'll learn - and welcome! Considering Kiwi's reputation, they were incredibly patient with me. Just highlight quotes u want to respond to and hit "Quote" each time - across multiple comments/posts. Then go to the blank screen and hit "Insert Quotes". They'll all display and u can reply to each. (That's for a laptop, anyway.)
Wait, was there someone in this thread, mayhaps the subject of the thread, that specifically said that they think Jesus was an ordinary human and not the Son of God?
He did indeed say that. I remember wtaf?- ing at the time.
(He totally reads this thread)
- He spent a decent chunk of time talking about religion, how he disagrees with every system of theology, and talking Critical Theory readings of the Bible (It is hard to understand, but interesting if you put a spin on it and read it like satire! Do that and laugh!).
Yup - he's reading. (He also has a bunch of cultists up on his DMs freaked out abt doxing so I'm sure that's part of it.)
Btw, I was multitasking during the Locals stream. 10 min into that 40 min lecture about Christianity I paused bc there was no discernable reason for him to be discussing it.
Then I remembered I clipped his existential (silly) pondering of life, death, and heaven a couple of days ago. Might be a total coincidence... but I bet the narcissist loves that we're a little obsessed with his midlife crisis. (Which makes us a little parasocial but at least we're on the "LOL/hate" side of that equation.)
Yes, he's planning a regular Sunday Locals stream discussing religion. What could possibly go wrong?
I've been reading this thread too much. The first thought of the 'big black butterfly' was Drex.
*Chokes on coffee* You win the morning.
I'm not going to bother listening to this because life's too fucking short, but there's no such thing as a 'Critical Theory' reading of the Bible.
Yup. Nick knows just enough words to be "dangerous" and his cultists are generally so uneducated they wouldn't know he's full of shit.
Even when they are "educated" they're myopic af. EG: Elie says she has an associates degree but sometimes says "an advanced degree" from a "top tier" university - one assumes Johns Hopkins when she was stationed in Baltimore. Meanwhile, she only knows Mormonism, genetic research (probs connected to the LDS, they're deep into that shit), mothering, anxiety disorders (hers), Netflix, the military, and clean food probs bc of the anxiety. (I can post her cookbook collection if anyone is interested.) Not exaggerating. That's literally all she knows. She rarely leaves the house and makes her little kids not speak for 2hrs/evening so she can calm down.
My theory is that Nick has no interest anymore in religion at all and that this is all about pleasing the wife. My impression is that the family has ended involvement with organized religion and the wife has some nagging doubts about having done so.
I'm starting to lean more heavily into the theory too... and that it was their church that called him out and a big piece of "the worst day".
