I haven't seen this one brought up in the thread before, so here goes. While idly looking for piggy content around the web, I stumbled on this page from that golden age between the Lappening and the Norm tweet, when childings flowed freely and our corpulent Actual Tough Guy went around winning bar fights. It turns out Fatrick once wrote licensed fiction for the tabletop game BattleTech, and he so impressed the fanbase that they sought him out for an interview at a convention. Or, more likely, he was the easiest writer to approach since nobody else wanted to meet him.

Curious, I went to look for the story itself. It seems to have been lost to time, since the website hosting it went down and it clearly wasn't judged worthy of being republished in a print anthology. All that survives is the page on the game's wiki, which for some reason had a category made just for it.

According to the description, piggy's monumental contribution to the lore of BattleTech was a total of 7 pages. By the sound of it, it had all the deep plot and engaged writing we could expect from a Pigrick masterpiece.

It remains unclear in which system the Hornblower was destroyed, who attacked her or why.

I bet they were glad they hired such an enthusiastic and passionate author.

The biggest question here is how Rick got the job in the first place. From what I know, BattleTech is a fairly big franchise. Were they really that desperate for any kind of content, or did piggy's SFWA pals hook him up?

I don't know about now but game companies used to be pretty casual about accepting shit from randos. I've even had a couple goofy gadgets in [notable franchise] just by sending it in along with a "do whatever you like with this" letter. Nothing major or over a couple paragraphs, just a couple items from canon that hadn't made it in for whatever reason.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he just sent it in unsolicited and they used it.

(Note that even Jake Alley has had some stuff published by game companies and he is the laziest mother in existence. If Pat sent it in represented by an agent or was asked to do it, it's not really that hard to get published in that field. Especially if you aren't particularly concerned about the money end of it.)
