Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

as a heavy metal, depleted uranium isn't much more or less toxic than good old lead (which is still the material of choice for most mass produced bullets)
in terms of radioactivity, it's not very impressive either. depleted uranium is essentially the waste byproduct that you are left with after isotope separation: U235 is the juicy kind of uranium, the fissile kind, the kind with high radioactivity, the kind you need in nuclear reactors and weapons. after you take most of that out of the natural uranium, you are left with large amounts of U238 - the boring kind of uranium, the kind that is not fissile, the kind with low radioactivity. that's what DU is, that's what these munitions are made of. it's less radioactive than the natural uranium in the earth.
I recall an anecdote about a guy in the military whose job was guarding a DU ammo dump for six months who had to wear a radiation exposure badge to measure the accumulated rads. Then he took a plane flight and accidentally brought the badge with him; the badge had more accumulation from that flight than the previous six months surrounded by DU.

It's a huge hurdle for laymen to understand the meaning of the letter D in DU.

Anything that remotely relates to nuclear physics causes people to shut off their brains and go into irrational fear mode. That's more or less what Putin is banking on I'd guess. His followers are stupid, he's not.

As an aside, Ukraine has an old, closed uranium mine west of the Dnieper. If they wanted the bomb (and wanted it on the down-low), unofficially sending a few drunk slavs in there with some pickaxes would be infinitely more efficient than trying to stockpile and refine 235 from DU penetrators.

@Ghostse You're almost right but got the wrong Grumman kitty as it was the older F4F Wildcat not the Hellcat having trouble with the Zero while it was still top dog.

The "DU is radioactive" hysteria had been started by the anti-American U.S. news media during Desert Shield. What we been seeing is the same shit repeated ad nauseum for the past 30 plus years with just the names and dates regularly swiped out.

Makes sense as loudly screaming various magical buzzwords like "MUH NAZIS!" or "MUH TERRORISMS!" or "MUH COOF!" or "MUH NUCLEAR WAR!" or "MUH PWOBLEMATIC RAYSISM!" or "MUH GLOBOHOMO!" or "MUH WESTERN COLONIALISM!" or "MUH WINTER FREEZE!" to try and flip western public opinion has been russia's central, some may even say sole focus with regards to external propaganda since day 1.

Basically just grabbing at whatever terminology they think will cause the western public to shrink back in horror and spamming it en masse from every angle, hoping that since these no-no words cause chimpouts on the internet and social media, it will have the exact same effect on the general population.

....or to put it simply, they banked absolutely fucking everything on the normies being as obsessed with social media shitshows as the most autistic redditor, most schizophrenic channer, and the most insufferable twitter retard combined

Needless to say....it didnt fucking work, and infact made russia appear orders of magnitude more loathsome and pathetic to the same western audiences they wanted to both terrify and win over to a greater or lesser degree as their highest diplomats babbled about nazi burd biolabs, the wests evil attacks on the third reich during WW2, satanic homogay tranny cultists planning to buck break helpless russian orthodox priests en masse, the poor huddled masses of western Europe being so destitute by the war that they were reduced to eating their own used toilet paper for sustenance, Ukraine committing genocide every day by not surrendering to their liberators who had not yet fired a single shot against them, and dozens of even more fucking retarded narrative spins on their impressively ignoble shitting of their own bed.

And all this was compounded as the empty threats stacked up higher and higher, russia was pushed back further and further, and the true extent of their attacks on civilians became clearer and clearer, and both the west and the world at large began viewing russia as just a larger north korea with a bigger parking lot.

Kidnapped Ukrainian children returned to their families. I've seen other video on social media, and the kids don't have nice things to say about their hosts. This is the best I could find now:

Depleted uranium is used as radiation shielding, that's how un-radioactive it is. The danger has always been toxicological, not radiological. If the Russians are worried about it, they can wear their leftover COVID N95s, or whatever masks they bought in Russia. Probably something like this:

Russian meanies
It's rather laughable when people make the argument "At least Russia has real freedom unlike the USA."

To be fair it did work on the intended target. They managed to get QTards, lolberts and commies on the same side which is quite a feat.

I've found video of Russia's entirely humanitarian child relocation efforts.

It's just like my favourite media!

Russians using chain-link fencing (no doubt stolen from a Ukrainian warehouse) to ward off FPV drones:
That AA mount isn't even nigger-rigged; it's OEM Red Army-issue, probably circa 1943.

It's really important to differentiate UAF with the Territorial Guards. Ukraines Territorial Guards are the American National Guard on LSD. They get almost no central government support, amd are borderline the equivalent to volunteer fire department. Instead of fires though, they need to put out Vatnik infestations. On the flip side if you are in the Guard you won't have to fight outside your oblast. This is great, so long as your Oblast is not called Zaporzhia, Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk or Kharkiv.

The guards are often left to their own devices so they get creative, and often have to rely on really old Soviet shit.

You are correct on the 25mm, too many diameters getting tossed around. fix'd.

The Hellcat still had issues with Zeroes until tactics & training improved, which they did. (And the Corsair was better once they got bugs worked out )
As did the number of fighters. The Thatcher Weave was incredibly effective, but it was basically a 4 on 1 (or two on one) tactic. Which even out numbered you could get away with due the US planes' ability to soak damage, and the Zeros ability to turn into a fireball with one good burst.
(The weave was also easy to counter if the Japanese pilots could recognize it and adapt - but given combat losses, only very good or very lucky Japanese pilots were about to experience and survive to be able to recognize it the next time. and again, that's where crew survivability comes in)

Anyway, comes down to the same point: US pilots had better odds of surviving even a losing dogfight and had the opportunity learn and to get better, Japanese pilots tended to not survive their loss.
Don't forget those big-ass engines and heavy planes meant a US pilot could always nose-down, kick into WEP, and just outrun the Japanese and head home if things weren't going in his favor, even if his plane had more holes it in than plane. The Japanese were very unhappy about that state of affairs.

Didn't they change that law recently to allow them to be called up to serve anywhere in the country for obvious reasons? Also they should replace that Eurobeat in these TDF vids with GLA music since they're using similar kit.

The one thing I hate is how lolberts act like Russia is good because the west decided to stupidly practice draconian lockdowns.

Like Russia doesn't have to be a good guy for western leaders to be dumb.

People with fringe ideologies tend to hyper focus on one thing. Russia’s not woke and trots out orthodox sock puppets to bless AKs? That’s going to appeal to religious conservatives with more fervor than sense. Lockdowns mean the death of all liberty, forever despite the fact that every county in America can lay paper on you in the event of a public health emergency ? lolberts are gonna conveniently ignore how Russia laughs in the face of your civil liberties.

i'm not 100% sure but i believe that russia had its own version of lockdowns and vaccine mandates. don't know if they did things more or less heavy handed than the west.
instead of pfizer and moderna, they simply pushed their own homebrew vax made by a russian state owned research lab. whether that's more or less healthy is impossible to tell since russian studies and info about side effects on their own vax are just as untrustworthy as the burger cdc sucking big pharma cock.

I mean to be fair the phenomena of "nuclear paranoia" goes way beyond Russia's useful idiots. There's a reason why nuclear magnetic resonance imaging was renamed to MRI. Or why people still think the "neutron bomb" was some sort of maniacal anti-population weapon meant to leave infrastructure intact.

Honestly haven't thought of it in exactly those terms before but it makes sense. They have such a simplistic view of the world because they hyperfocus on one single issue regardless of its validity or any considerations outside it.

I will add though that it's more than just fringe loonies. There's a good deal of mainstream conservatives who are against sending aid to Ukraine because they either simply hate Biden or they hyperfixate on government spending (ignoring that $70 bil is literal chump change for the USG).

Sputnik was the best non-mRNA vaccine according to a collection of studies, many Western.

Russia (and East EU) had varying levels of lockdowns, but like everything in the area, they were often inconsistent and easy to ignore. Unsure about vax mandates but Russia sure encouraged it a lot. There were mask mandates pretty much everywhere though.
The Baltics sperged out badly about vax mandates if I remember correctly. Sometimes being a small country with very uniform population can be a detriment, as if a majority takes a vax, and you don't, it will be essentially seen as unpatriotic and a threat to community cohesion, and the state will fuck with you.

Adding a bit of funny video, enjoy

Also ignoring the fact US aid to Ukraine has done more damage to one of America's strategic enemies in one year then trillions of dollars over decades in the cold war. Even if Russia magically turns this around tomorrow, the Russian ground forces are going to be a shattered wreck
