I think it's the combination of a few things, and there's also different types of trannies.

TLDR: mental illness, grooming, social trends, oppression olympics, porn, and the internet.

A quick Google search shows about over 90% of trannies have anxiety and 70% suffer from Depression. They claim they're depressed cause the world hates them, but these people were almost certainly depressed before transitioning. Almost 60% suffer from bi polar disorder. I can't find an exact number, but a disproportionate amount of gay people were sexually abused as children, it's probably the same for trans people. All of this to say, my theory is it's a coping mechanism. Due to trauma or mental illness, they don't know how to fix their problems and are desperate for a solution. Transitioning is sold as a miracle drug that will fix all your problems. I think it functions as a way for them to become someone else. There's also a cult aspect to it where you now have a community of people who are supposed to support you and love you for who you are.

It's obviously just a trend for most of the teenage trannies and enbies. It's a pre-packaged identity they use to fit in. If you're retarded, you think someone's race and sexual identity make what you have to say more important, so it's also for the oppression points. Most of these ones will grow out of it.

The internet as a whole plays a huge part for both of these groups. People are free to talk about their degeneracy anonymously. Preditors can find and groom kids and the mentally ill far easier and with far more privacy then they ever could in person.

I think there's something to this.

The only way gay rights made it through was by presenting homosexuality as just as mundane as heterosexuality. Who cares what two consenting adults get up to in the privacy of their own bedroom? I sure fucking don't.

Now let us assume the same scenario but with the internet in existance:
You have unlimited free and anonymous access to trans-inducing porn and erotica (which you become increasingly mesmerized by) and you start to look for like minded people on the internet.
Despite only making up 2% of the general population you and your ilk number in the milions in the US alone,and the ability to efficiently and anonynously connect with like-minded people lead to your registering on a crossdressing forum where you start posting pictures of yourself waring womens clothing,all while you interact with thousands of who do the same and compliment each other about how beautiful and valid you are.

I could go on,but you probably understand how continuing down that path eventualluy leads to people going full tranny.

I grew up in American South, where ppl are very religious, but also pretty cynical about religion and the psychology of how it works. its hard to explain. but everybody is very familiar with the lifelong fuck-up who finds Jesus and suddenly is more faithful and righteous than everyone else.

Its like they finally found something to elevate them above others, so they go crazy with it.

If they do it right, their past as a fuck-up will totally disappear and everybody will only remember the righteous convert. Being a deacon or choir director (etc) becomes their whole identity, they join parish counsels and pastoral committees, they are all over it. they attend the conferences, they organize church trips, they run websites. etc.

Lots of these trannies remind me of these devout, newly-saved types, who finally found an answer for their failures: the devil had them by the throat.
In the tranny case, they now believe they are the opposite sex and it becomes their whole identity, they often start telling women about the women's role, as the new-Christians will start quoting the Bible to the same ppl who used to quote it to THEM, and don't even see the irony or humor in that.

I'm inclined to believe that most trannies aren't real trannies, they don't actually have gender dysphoria but rather they're grifters who are either groomers, fetishists or attention seekers. The groomers are self-explanatory, the fetishists are caused by the mass adoption of porn, and the attention seekers are a result of social media like Twitter.

The real trannies with actual gender dysphoria though, I'm not totally sure. If we're talking the old trannies of yesteryear, before the 2010s when they became widely recognized, I don't know what the cause of their gender dysphoria could've been a result of.
The new trannies of today though (which is the majority of them), for many it's likely due to the confusion of identity presented with the mass spreading of identity politics and the propaganda associated with it, which is ultimately messing with their brains. Some of them are also just being groomed into it, unfortunately. Most new trannies are young and impressionable, so this makes sense.
