Dennis' buttmonkey role and bizarre video-derailing antics are some of the only remaining genuine entertainment left in the channel. He's like chaos incarnate to Linus, just about the only thing that provokes genuine reactions from him, and it's fitting that he's the designated dick-stickerer.

You don't even have to go that far with the drive necessarily. Just 0 out the bits or use something like nwipe running off of ShredOS or gparted. Or encrypt the drive and lose the keys. There are so many ways to effectively ensure your drive's contents are wiped and are not going to pop up in a ddrescue attempt by the feds or a local dumpster diver.
This all sounds like more work than just hitting the drive with a hammer.

I don't understand why Windows hasn't implemented something selinux to protect shit like appdata folders from being accessed by random-ass applications. Why in the dear fucking god are browser profiles able to be read by just anything in the year of our lord (social engineering), 2023? We're fucking around with TPM and UEFI security and all this other bullshit when all it takes is a user-level piece of malware to pwn just about your entire life.

2 pages and 9 hours yet no one archived, shame on you Kiwis.

It's kind of horrific to have the inside of your house covered in cameras like this. It's also horrific that he walks around naked even knowing those cameras are there.
Its unbelievable that he is a popular e-celeb with cameras IN HIS OWN HOME and walks around NAKED! Worse these arent wired type cameras these can be accessed via the INTERNET. Its not with physical tape, no its wireless.

Going to play Devils advocate for a second but if you have these types of wireless cameras its not THAT hard to make them semi secure (not that I can see Linus doing this). If any kiwi's want to try this out because they can be found pretty cheaply you can just set them up on their own dedicated wireless access point (like an old router) and never plugging that into WAN. (basically it can only talk to other devices on the network) You can run them on an old computer (or raspberry pi plugged into a bargin bin external drive) just with a continuous loop that overwrites old recordings when it fills up and it will be safeish from randoms on the internet. It probably won't be secure from your neighbours or any chinese spyware but it would require a direct attack.

Even better, if you have a slightly fancier router/hotspots you can just designate a separate isolated subnet and a second SSID that connects to it without having to buy extra hardware.

This might be my own paranoia talking but I wouldn't trust it to connect to anything that has an active internet connection, I don't trust a router firmware update or config error to not broadcast that to the internet. A router with no connection to WAN would have a much harder time accidentally connecting to the internet

most of that IoT shovelware runs some ARM on an ancient Linux kernel with tools that not rarely have known, old exploits out of the ass. No way to plug those holes usually either because the ARM SoC manufacturer wasn't forthcoming to open source their shit so there's no way to update it to a current mainline kernel, if it's not locked down to begin with in some way that is. Hijacking/rooting some of these all-in-one IP cameras could be an utterly trivial thing, even if you apply security measures.

Just get a good pair of pliers and crack the discs and leave them in some salt water for a day or two. If it's an SSD or M2 it's even easier to turn them to dust.

Any form of damage will usually deter amateurs which is what you have to worry about as usually you're not targeted. Though digitally formatting the discs can be an option I enjoy the physical aspect of the destruction.
There's this great presentation at DEF CON that talks about destroying hard drives quickly at the press of a button in case of raids, and what they tried. Turns out a nail gun worked pretty well in case of emergency.
also lol

LTT seems to be jumping in and out of controversies these last few years, which is a shame because apart from the weird direction the channel goes through, i find the rest of the main staff there is making interesting content. Surface-level, yes, but interesting nonetheless, and i hope it interest enough people to dig deeper.
