"Challenger 3", as it currently stands, is a turret and electronics upgrade on existing the Challenger 2 hulls. Given current trends in our military spending and planning, it's probably going to end up in a similar situation to the Armata: a vapourware tank that only exists as a few prototypes and never sees active duty.

From the sound of things the Brits could not get rid of the Challenger 2s fast enough. The Ukraine War was a perfect excuse to get those donkeys off the balance sheet and convince the MoD to finally put the Challenger 3 into production
Yeah there is very clearly a ton of diverting stuff that was destined for the scrap yard (AMX-10 I'm looking at you) to Ukraine for the "I'm helping!" write-off.

Anyway, what this is a long way to say is that while yes the rot is internal, you cannot ignore that the rot is being nurtured and fed from outside.
