You can have the urge to fight all you want. But you have to have the capability to actually fight. No one except the US has this. Russia doesn't and you are seeing this lack of capability in action now. Depending on your opponent to be weaker than you is not a good strategy. This is what the Russians did.

It's 120mm, same calibre as NATO. The difference is that the barrel is rifled, so the tank can fire HESH, and it uses two-part ammunition so that the propellant can be stored separately, in water-filled containers to reduce the chance of fire if the bins take a hit.

Against another tank the Chally is (ideally) going to be shooting L27 penetrators.
Rifled guns aren't as effective as smoothbores at shooting kinetic penetrators, but they can still fire them and would still cause more damage to an enemy tank than a HESH.

Provided the HESH hits the parts of the tank protected with composite armor i.e. turret face and upper hull glacis. Shots to the sides and rear will be very unpleasant even to the most current tanks.

(now the Wagnerites & Mobiks hunkered down in a pillbox or behind a concrete barricade on the other hand, might seriously need to worry about HESH)

Since most vehicles that are not a tank don't have composite armor HESH (HEP) will destroy them just as easily as bunkers and earthen fortifications.

But since the only country still making HESH for the English rifle 120mm cannon is India for the past few decades. Ammo availability or lack there of is going to render this line of discussion rather moot very quickly.
