I'm guessing you don't work at the moment (or possibly work in an important field where the below is not sustainable)?
In the average company 30% of the workforce is ballast. Work they should be doing is handled by about 10% of the remainder when the impact of it not getting done spirals out.
That number is slowly shifting but not in the right way. I bet it'll get to 35% ballast soon with retirements but the problem it it's still around 10% covering for them.

Bit PL but I'm fortunate enough to run my own company, while it's plenty diverse in both race and sex it's extremely physical work so I can't employ the physically disabled and any ballast I take on is soon outed!

Notice how it's always "seize the means of production" and never "workers should pool their resources to start a co-op business together."
