Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Wait. Who? Which villain?
All for One who was pretty much made on purpose to be a generic big bad villain, but Horikoshi must've really loved Rise of Skywalker by bringing him back late in the story to be the main bad guy again, and hijack the plot. Ruining the world building by having almost every problem trace back to him in the third act while also trying to be a bootleg Aizen despite being pretty pathetic. Then on top of that revealing a random motive super late into the story because he wasn't a well liked character.

Like dickriders for MHA defend this terrible writing decision by saying "Oh villains are meant to be hated and that means it's actually genius!" when it is just shit writing.

MHA fans will take any stupid decision in the story and act like its genius. Which is ironic given they mocked Black Clover fans for doing the same thing (which they actually do admittedly).

I have yet to read the manga, been meaning to get around to it ever since the anime finished its run on Toonami. I wonder if they'll keep the old model of doing weekly episodes until they run out of material, or shift to a seasonal model instead to avoid needing more filler.
From what I've heard Pierrot wanted to avoid another Naruto/Bleach situation where half the series' runtime ended up being filler because they kept catching up so once they hit around 10% filler they just put the anime on hiatus until the manga is over. The last episode came out around two years ago at this point

Would anybody here recommend the Jujutsu Kaisen manga?
The story is nothing special, it's painfully generic even. But it is a no-bullshit shounen. It knows that it's all just an excuse for well-choreographed fights with interesting powers.
I read it as a way to kill the itch for Hunter x Hunter, since it is obviously inspired by it, though nowhere near as sophisticated.

Caught up on Dungeon Meshi, still fucking good. It's really tight and the anime will probably worth a watch just for foreshadowings and "it will be important later".
Also makes me chuckle at the joke I made some time back on "how close you are to cannibalism" only for the MC to go all the way to (technical) self cannibalism.
I would imagine any shonen written before the birth of Christ sounds generic nowadays.
Shonen basically became synonymous for battle manga so the amount of variations is pretty limited. Either change sub genre or the battle mechanics.

Scott Pilgrim to ruin a generation of women weebs. Which is already a bad generation to begin with.

The Yuasa Masaaki/Science SARU worship is getting wildly out of control.
Okay but can we talk about how Tatami Galaxy and its "sequel" are one of the best anime of all time?

"Tatami Galaxy" was amazing. "Time Machine Blues" I haven't seen, so I thought the "sequel" you meant was "Walk On, Girl" of which I didn't care for all that much probably because I'm not a fucking drunkard like she is so I "don't get it".

I mean Time Machine Blues. But it's not really a sequel as you'll find out if you watch it.

Honestly, I'm really curious on how it is going to be received now, assuming it is goign to stick next to the comics,, because Scott Pilgrim did not age well... at all.

I've read the comics again a couple of years ago, and I was surprised on how much I've soured on it, and it was one of my favorites comics of the 2000's, and to it's credit, it was a stand out from presentation, dialogue and setting.

But, taking a new look at it, it sucks, unlikeable characters, a bit too precious dialogue, videogame gimmick is fun at first later gets boring.

But one thing that Scott Pilgrim gets "right" is how it managed to capture the essense of how self-centered and egotistical 20-somethings are, but with nothing else to reflect on.

I am reading dragon ball z manga in full color and I just finished the android/cell arc, what a wild ride. The colors look really fucking good on it

That was always the criticism back then, Scott being a dick. I hear the author went through a divorce not too long ago, wonder if it will affect how this adaption will be written.
Tomo-chan is a Girl finished not too long ago, tomboy lovers
It was good. 100 Kanojo and Rokudou no Onna-tachi here we come!

Isn't liking tomboys kinda gay?
False, you literally get a girl, who becomes a perfect homie to be with & has almost none of the usual idiosyncrasies (faggotry, bullshittery, whatever you wanna call it) that make you go "women ☕". It's the best kind of girl.

More than that, it has potential to be even better.
