Nick's fundraising never made much sense on the face of it. Nick made a Give Send Go even though he "hates asking for help" and he was "trying to not do [the GSG]". Sounded like Nick was in a real bind, though he denies this later in the stream. He'd assumed that if the pain ever began to bite, he could just do an online begging campaign, but stupid though his locals simps might be, the rest of the world isn't that dumb. The general consensus is 'this is a rich trust fund kid who bragged about earning a million bucks last year and blew over $200k on two new cars? And this asshole wants ME to send him money?'
In explaining how donator's won't get money back from Monty if Nick wins, Nick seems to imply that the fans who are helping pay for his legal expenses are thereby functionally footing the bill for Montegraph, who can't pay Nick's sizable legal costs (courtesy of Randazza). Sort of a "I know Monty can't pay, so I want your money" kind of thing. Maybe Nick should have described that better so it wouldn't sound like his supporters are paying on behalf of an alleged pedophile (just because Nick decided to overpay for his legal representation).
Moving on, Nick tries to console them by saying any money he gets would go back into the show although there's no accountability for how it will be used and what qualifies as "the show".
Losing face might be worth it if Nick really needed the money, but he says he doesn't, so all he's done is lose face to the tune of a fraction of what he was asking to solve the alleged non-issue of money.
I would say this was either very poorly thought out or he wasn't being honest if I wasn't so sure it was both.
