Hell how about a double lock entry system at the doors that can't be shot through, where you have to go through an airlock type set up that locks you in the middle of two security doors and you have to be buzzed in, with fire exits only opening from the inside.

Ok, if someone did manage to get firearms and knew the schedule they could probably hurt some kids at recess but they won't be stalking the corridors.

Because even though shit like this is awful and a massive story, it's still incredibly rare and not worth spending billions to turn every school into a prison.

I'm not victim blaming because that's shitty, but it just feels weird that random adults can get into a school building.

The security at a school is dependent on location/state

students in one state may have to walk through metal detectors every morning but others in another state can just freely walk in and out of the school

Ah, the kids can always walk in freely in the morning - for elementary age they can't leave until the end of the day tho. For high school some principals let the students come and go at lunch but most lock the gates until school is over.
We don't think to protect students from other students, except for some gang stuff in big cities. But random adults are entirely restricted from school property during school hours unless they have prior appointment and a reason - I need to go through reception and get an ID badge just to meet with my kids teachers.

The media is caught between two opposing forces here. A female spree killer is so rare, it's a real man bites dog story and they could get a lot of profitable coverage out of it. Particularly since Americans have always shown a huge appetite for stories about female child-killers. But she's also a he/him, so we have to pretend it was just another ho-hum dude!

What is interesting: a lot of non-lefty news sources have just thrown in the towel and gone all-in with the misgendering, and even an outlet like NPR is defaulting to not using pronouns at all. I think it's more proof that transmen have always just been along for the ride when it comes to institutional tranny acceptance. "Trans rights" is all about the autogynephiles, always has been. It does make sense, encouraging men to become eunuchs increases the female-male ratio (even if only chasers want troons that at least checks out some of the competition) which reduces the number of angry young men who think they have nothing to lose. Encouraging women to become pooners does the opposite, and unlike lesbians you don't even get fetish porn or "educators" who can be relied upon to indoctrinate the next generation out of it.

I'm not saying that everything has to be tweetable, but I have zero respect for academics who deliberately make their work inaccessible to the reader. Intentionally abstruse writing does not an intellectual make, and I suspect that nearly all of the Very Online types who routinely cite poststructuralist critics don't understand enough of what they read to be able to concisely summarize any of the ideas therein. I am actually not completely convinced that there is anything to summarize. As Chomsky said of Derrida, "suspicions remain", but at least Derrida had a cohesive point.

The 1st one can be as pretentious and wordy as they want it, but the 2nd one has to have all of the same ideas and concepts but in simple english, like a 5th grade reading level.
