It's just.... of all the lessons from their Great Patriotic War, this should've been one of the most obvious & easiest to implement. It's almost like that part of T-72 was explicitly designed for parade grounds, ranges, and paved (i.e. European) hardball, by someone who never saw tanks stuck in mud, before they were ordered to design it.
