I had to stop watching Banana Fish out of pure disgust after main plot points to like every episode were child porn, rape, child rape, and child prostitution encouraged by the father.
Nigger like what are you doing? Who writes that and who continues to watch it?
Was recommended it by a Fujo and they got mad at me when I told them why I stopped, giving me a spiel about how it's all with purpose.
I'm starting to think that men are wholesome chungus pretending to be edgy and women are edgy pretending to be wholesome chungus.
It's amazing how Fujo bait is several times worse than anything that is not a straight up hentai (and even in that regard most hentai isn't as dark or exploitive). And yet they still feel they can criticise male oriented fanservice for morality.

It's funny that even in the '80s, the mangaka didn't sugarcoat how gays reproduce by raping kids, and the adaptation, now taking place in 2018, didn't change that at all. As far as crime drama goes, I'm glad there's one that decided to go with the worst of the worst, but it relied way too heavily on that for Ash's character. I mean yeah, part of his psychological problems is because he's a victim of child abuse, but there's way too many characters who like to mock him for it and that's what's the most baffling about it. It was only at the end that Max stood up and burned the pictures and told Ash he can't be shackled to it forever and finally have a life, but the dude's kinda being an idealist about it.

The father being cartoonishly evil about disowning his abused son because "people talk" is just fucking hysterical, though. I could understand if Ash was willingly gay and if it still took place in the '80s, but that he was continuously rubbing the rape and abuse in Ash's face like everyone else in the crime world (including a fucking policeman who's the Don's mole, he was waving around the CP as an intimidation tactic in front of members of the goddamn press LMAO) is why fujos cry about how he's worse than Shou Tucker because "He's homophobic!" No, morons, he's a terrible father because he put a price tag on his son being raped by the evil gays. No wonder he disappeared from the narrative after the shoot-out lol.

I can't really recommend it to people despite the interesting premise of the mysterious "banana fish". Crime dramas are great and all, just be tasteful about the dark underbelly of the most depraved crimes against humanity and bring karmic punishment onto those characters who mock it (legit, don't think that detective I mentioned got punished for his smug "LOL you got raped" at all). Or just don't write cartoon villains in an otherwise down-to-earth setting and story.

Pretty certain the manga has better execution than whatever the fuck the anime was doing, but I'm also just sitting here wondering what the fuck is wrong with fujoshis for interpreting Ash finding actual human connection for once in his life as "Omg they're such boyfriendssssss".
I know this doesn't apply to the manga fanbase but I think the anime brought in a bunch of new people with misconceptions because it was directed by Hiroko Utsumi, who also directed Free! and Sk8.

I watched the show as it was coming out and I don't really see the hype either. I don't mind the dark subject matter cause I'm the type of person who listens to true crime podcasts and watches true crime youtubers but IIRC there was some plot point about Ash's brother leaving him to go to war that made more sense in the manga version cause boys were drafted back then so in the anime it feels like the modernisation just left a weird plot hole where the brother fucked off to Iraq even though his younger brother clearly needed him there.

I think it would have actually been a nice opportunity to adapt it in an 80s style and play into nostalgia cause I'm sure there's a market for that.

I finally read all of dragon ball Z phase and to be honest, thinking it back, I cant understand how it got do popular, the manga is so barebones in content other than the fights. It is really weird to dee how it grew out so much

Spring lineup looks like it will be decent. Dr Stone S4 is finally airing. Hopefully the story doesn't go the way of Promised Neverland S2.
Honestly, I wouldn't have cared if The Promised Neverland pulled that shit if they adapted Goldy Ponds first because there's not much good left afterwards.
Idk if I'm an outlier on this but I think the best of Dr.Stone was already adapted and it's all just kinda downhill after the Stone Wars, it never really gets bad but it kinda lost most of what I loved about it.

Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou is pretty based, it's basically "if you have no religion then the godless masses will have no appreciation of human life and will justify killing undesirables". Maybe the protagonist was just reincarnated in Canada.

I don’t know if @Kari Kamiya or @PS1gamenwatch has seen this before, but one thing is certain: shōujo and shōujo ai from the 90’s was built differently.
Still haven't sat down to watch it yet, but yeah, can confirm shoujo was built different over 30 years ago. For instance, there was more horror shoujo way back when, such as Vampire Princess Miyu, and the obscure (to us) Hengen Taima Yakou Karura Mau, which is about twin priestesses who go around performing exorcisms, and it doesn't shy away from the supernatural horrors. Wish there was more stuff like that.

These two new anime in 2023 (Rokudō no Onna-tachi and Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu) are two that I really want to watch, but I’m debating whether or not I want to intentionally wait until their seasons are over.

I’ve been reading both of them since the beginning, even more so with the former since I actually liked that one, and the latter is very well-written for a romance story. Either way, I just hope I don’t get let down. I just found out that Rokudō’s love interest is voiced by the same woman that voiced Nagatoro.

And by the way
This is another one that I really want to watch, since I’ve just caught up with the new chapter:

Seo Kouji recently celebrated this milestone of officially hitting 100 chapters, and the art looks lovely.

Times like this reminds me why I specifically avoid anime with any gay/lesbian pairing, especially if they are the MCs. Much like real life, there are a bunch of skeletons in the closet to the relationship.
