Mega Rad Gun Thread

Anyone wanna recommend some good ideas for an M16 clone? I know Colt (CZ) still makes the AR15A4, do I just get one stock and then build from there? Or do I try to do it from scratch? Love the gun to pieces, want it to have as much of that original grungy style that the Vietnam-era M16s had. I can appreciate newer AR platforms. But something inside me calls for a classic.'

Or do I just say no and get a FAL?

I have one of these and am very happy with it after swapping the trigger. I’m partial to Geissele match triggers with a light pull. The 20” barrel gives that nice ~200FPS boost.

Grab a Harrington & Richardson off of PSA's website
They were one of the manufactures of the M16A1s for the Vietnam War. So it is a "real" Vietnam M16 (outside of some small cosmetic changes in like the furniture and shit due to modern manufacturing constraints).

I actually got the Aero M16A4 clone last year and I'm very happy with it.

Good fit and finish and it shoots great. Nothing quite like rifle length AR gas system on a 20 inch barrel.

Was unaware PA had complete builds of it, you may have just saved me some cash to get the gun and then buy parts I want for it. Waiting on girlfriend to compile the list of things she wants for her standard AR-15 build.

So any reason not to run them LAW stocks on already SBR? I have 2 stamps for my HD gun Thinking a tuck pistol/rifle. be great to remove door kicker AKA anti christ.

Right now, stamped 223 10.8" SBR can.

Do I need to go full piston or can I run the LAW system? better tuck clearing a room etc?

Does anyone have a Walther P99? The original configuration, the Smith & Wesson clone, or the AS configuration doesn't matter to me. I handled an AS model at a store recently and it was very comfortable but none of the ranges around me have one for rent so IDK how it shoots. I've been carrying a G26 for the last like 8 years and feel like getting a new gun. I like the looks of the P99 over the newer Walther pistols and they're getting ready to start selling an OD green model that looks nice. Any anecdotes from past and current owners would be appreciated.
I had an SW99 in .45 ACP. Hated shooting it. I chalk that up to the design never being intended for that cartridge though. The ergonomics were quite nice outside of that, and liked the decock-able "SA/DA" like setup a lot.

I've wanted a 9mm version ever since and am looking for how to get a Q5 match steel frame and poly frame, the triggers on those are REALLY nice.

Walthers are underrated in my opinion. Best out of the box trigger I've ever used.

Recently inherited my grandpa's Browning BSS. I remember him letting me hunt grouse with this thing when I was 13. Anyone here ever shoot one of these? It's a sporter model, so it has the English style stock. I never thought I'd actually own this gun one day. We used to joke that you could shoot in the opposite direction and you'd hit still hit a bird.bss - Copy.png

One of those is was what I hunted pheasant with to start, although I seem to remember it had those old-timey hammers on the side. Definitely not my ideal shotgun, as an OU is what I always wanted for that purpose; but I had enough success & fun with it that I've been partial to SxS guns ever since.

not because some dipshit is going to try to put you in Gitmo over your punisher skull back plate.
People shouldn't put Punisher skulls on their carry guns because that's what fatass cops do, and is cringe.

I have watched that show multiple times and never realized that those were longslide M9s. I always assumed based on the trans that they were just FS chrome or Inox.

It's got a longer barrel, slide, and frame, yeah. IIRC she used a normal stainless PT92 as a temporary replacement for a while after the Samurai guy cuts one of them in half, but they didn't show that in the anime.

Edit: ah...competition long-slide kits...which don't look anything like the sword cutlass. I think I still want one but not as much as a Q5 Match SF if we're talking thousands of dollars in a pistol lol.
Cutting two 92FS Inox pistols apart and having them welded together into a longer one, with an even longer custom barrel, would be a LOT cooler than the Q5 Match. Just saying.

And 17 rounds stock is plenty for a duty gun.
You can get flush fitting magazines that hold 18.

I'd only discourage you from this if you have small hands
Beretta do make their Vertec models, which have slimmer grips.

They are significantly heavier than most people realize since they are full size with a metal frame,
They're roughly as heavy as a 1911 or Hi-Power, so not bad IMO.

but while I appreciate the advantages of my polymer frame handguns there is something satisfying about the metal on metal sounds that come out of it when reloading, racking the slide, and engaging the safety.
I prefer the felt recoil with metal frames, too.

Friend might know someone selling pistols for a little cheaper because they bought a surplus. Mostly M1911’s, Barettas, and old police revolvers.

I typically just want them to have them. Probably go to a range. I also kinda want a Makarov, but have no clue on how the price for quality goes on them.
Brother in-law has a Makarov, heavy but smooth firing little bugger. Personally for police surplus if I had a choice, either a Beretta or a revolver of some sort, a Model 10 would be nice. Already got a used Model 36 as u guys know, takes a lot to break a revolver even after decades. Still need to get it's serial number checked out by Smith and Wesson, I'm curious about its background, though that's a bit off topic.

I did hear about that, but 17 is just classic, though I'd take a 18 any day of the week

In fairness, I have small hands, and can still use the M92 just fine. But I'm right on the edge of "it's too big" so it's size is one of the few hard "you won't like this gun" things about it outside of weight that could be a factor, but good to know about the vertec.

Some guns I buy because they fill a role, some I buy because they're fucking cool. The Q5 matches would fill a role, while a longslide M9 would be a longterm "cool shit" project...but I need to finish my current "cool shit" project that's over a decade in the making first lol, they do tend to eat money and shit problems.
