Tumblr once again guilt-tripping authors for wanting to write things they love. How dare they, when they should be catering to me!?
(also, if this kid knows so much about colonizers and "magical POC", why doesn't he write, hum...)

Kinda funny though since this is the same tumblr that threw an autistic temper tantrum when they heard JK Rowling was writing about Native Americans.

(the blog i got this from is hilarious, btw- an angel-kin narcissistic "mentally ill" child who thinks she's an angel/unicorn and has the typical good ol' white guilt...Everything about her screams "spoiled brat in need of attention", but what do i know)

She does have a point - I'd love to see some fantasy that doesn't feel like rehashed Tolkien or Joseph Campbell, and I do think that you could do some good fantasy with non-white cultures... But then you realize this same person would throw a tantrum if those books were written.

That's why those things don't get written. Every time a writer even tries to be inclusive, fandom wets itself and screeches about appropriation and racism. Either that or it gets published and they don't give two shits about the story because A - no pandering they can glom onto and B - nothing to fap to.

Mercedes Lackey wrote an urban/modern fantasy back in the 90's that involved the Osage and played with their culture the way fantasy authors have for miscellaneous European cultures (Sacred Ground). She had so much hate mail and early SJW viciousness that that novel hasn't been republished since. Only an idiot would publish anything outside of European misc.

:powerlevel:I enjoyed that story. It involved mythologies I didn't know anything about.

I haven't read that one (kind of want to now despite it being hard to find) but I'm surprised tumblr hasn't bitched out Gaslight Dogs' author for appropriating Inuit culture for a steampunk story.

Just wanted to say, without derailing a thread about tumblr posts to sperg about writing but couldn't start a private convo with you: the struggle is real.

Taking a moment to point this out:

Ghostbusters remake comes out and there are 100 million posts on Tumblr about feminism and the patriarchy and so on and sundry.

Qandeel Baloch, a Pakistani woman and social media personality who made a name for herself by challenging the social customs and antiquated gender bias of her country, is straight up murdered by her brother in an "honor killing"... deafening fucking silence from the radfems and SJWS.
It's almost like they don't care about when actual women are actually murdered because of actual systematic inequality...

That's normal. The same week there was that huge Adventure Time clusterfuck where people were boycotting Cartoon Network over Marceline/Bubblegum, a gay teenager killed himself due to bullying at school and it was such a big deal that Lady Gaga got involved. Guess which one Tumblr cared about?

Pop culture is a more important issue to these people than, you know, real life.

It's super rough when your metric for whether or not you enjoy a book is "is the main character X race or any race except Y race." That sounds kinda racist...
They'll still bitch the PoC protag acts too white despite characteristics in their personality causing them to lean more toward the educated and polite kind. That is to say if they're not black and angry about the system despite the setting or not being an ass to the lighter-characetrs for no reason...
the author's doing it wrong.

Which is hilariously racist on their parts because they act like race is based also on action, like the whole concept someone acting "white."

As an aside, that's also incredibly detrimental to various areas and groups, where any attempt at self-improvement, having ambition, etc. are seen as a "white" thing and, thus, automatically bad. It's racist because such an idea implies that other races aren't and can't be industrious, ambitious, hardworking, etc.

But tumblr is only capable of progress and societal improvement, you negative nacy-fuckass you. uwu

Joking aside, I can only click agree once. :(

Edit:
I did some more pondering and never understood how being a productive member of your community- or even being a decent person for that matter- was somehow an inherently negative much less a white thing.
But then again, considering their "knowledge" of those peaceful third-world utopias founded by Peeohcees.

Yeah.

That comic is totally how that played out. I bet my hand that it did.
We all moments where we just want to play a cutesy dumb game and not be bothered, but just say you're not interested in handing your number out to strangers and that maybe you'll run into him again? Geez is it really that hard to say you're not feeling social toward strangers?

Given that it's a non-white person hurting another non-white person, they don't care. Now if he was a white guy, then they might. It's sad on what they will look away at even if it goes against their beliefs.

What is "acting white" anyway? Not smoking crack? Not stealing a car? Having an education? Having a job? Not chimping out and stabbing someone at the drop of a hat?

I'd really like to know what the fuck is that supposed to mean. Apparently, not acting like a savage.

It's basically that, yes. It's leaving the 'hood' and making something better of yourself, because it's seen as selling out to the white man. Wanting to be a "house nigga" to use the old slavery-era term.

A young black activist I knew in college (and I mean an actual activist; not these Tumblr keyboard warriors) said it's a real problem; especially since some legitimate issues (such as mental illness) in the black community are also seen as "white person problems" and the typical course of action to either blame it on the white man regardless or just to flat out ignore it. It's fascinating yet horrifying, really.

It means "fuck whitey" for going all Leviathan and inventing the nineteen Natural Laws "bullshit."
