And again, I think you could argue that all porn in the Internet era has been just promoting something (first it was the personal website, now OF. It’s just the content you can create and distribute yourself. Only the name of the platform has changed).

As for quality , I’d just say standards dipped after MySpace died, OF and it’s predecessors gained steam, and “alt girls” didn’t need to just have their own special zines, websites, status as groupies and music video models for unknown bands that you had to search for, and whatever Suicide Girls is.

I'd say it depends on how much they separate their careers from their personal lives; there are many instances where they succeed in mainstream entertainment (e.g. news anchors, acting, singing, modeling) after they "graduate" (aka retire) from the JAV industry. A lot of their families may not like it, but again, I assume they treat it as part of their honne/tatemae culture (basically how you act in public vs. how you act in private with family and close friends) to how much of a deal they want to make of it.
