And Mom doesn't want a 10-year plan because that's either a blow-off or an outsized commitment to mud-wrestling pigs. So how did a 10-year plan even wind up on the table?

My theory is that dsp exaggerated what he talked with linda. Maybe she said something along the lines of "lets make a plan/commitment" to help dsp pay, but he turned it into the "10 year plan" to extend the begging time, thus securing atleast 10 years of dent money. Wouldn't be the first or last time he blows something out of proportion.
