Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Russians cut off the head of a Ukrainian in Bakhmut and stuck it on top of a stick.

I am not posting the image here, its all over Twitter.
One I saw was captioned 'dead Azov pig' or whatever. Head was turned brown.

It's a slightly different style of map, but one I prefer as the Bakhmut situation is more instantly recogisable. Basically the linked text says 5 attacks repulsed but that the enemy has conducted unsuccessful operations around Bogdanovka settlement and near Khromovoe. I suppose it's a hold before the spring offensive.

Pardon me if this was posted, but Commander Anders Puck Nielsen is an instructor at the Royal Danish Naval Academy. He wears his uniform for Danish TV but business wear on Youtube. He's quite fair and levelheaded and has been on Russian naval vessels on NATO business. The last major Russian mobilisation did stabilise a situation that was looking precarious for Russia, but now the personnel situation is looking tight for the various RF formations. Nielsen also talks on the Mediazona figure of 19,688, which a count of verified burials in Russia (not counting LNPR or dead bodies not sent back obviously), which in and of itself is extraordinary as the total of Afghanistan was c. 15,000.

Remember the Ukrainians are the violent ones though.

Das heisst "Azov" auf Englisch, Kraut.

Breaking Points review of all of the leaked Discord documents. Breaking Points is generally anti-Ukraine in the sense that they want the US to stop supporting Ukraine, but they aren't vatniks hawking Russian agitprop, so it's an interesting perspective. This is the only review of all of the documents that I have seen:

God 2x was not enough.
That was a lot of wasted air about "escalation"; do tards really think Putin's stopping at Donbas?

Puck has some good perspective but he's got a very naval mindset, and while I often agree with the points he starts from I disagree with his conclusions.

Uniform thing:
Not 100% on Danish regulations but for the US:
You are not allowed to appear in uniform and give statements unless authorized by command/government. That is you can go to a event in uniform* but are not allowed to get up and speak unless authorized by your branch. So my assumption is for Danish State TV he is appearing with official sanction and gotten a press officer brief. For Yubtub, clearly that's not happening and he's speaking his mind.

* Being in uniform at any remotely political event is risky unless the military has no hold over you (retired, no pension, no VA).

More KINO if you guys remeber the tank engaging the whole trench line and runing over few ruskies here a full interview of the tank gunner explaining the whole OP and why it wax preformed

Azov and Azov units. How and where Ukrainian nationalists fight.

Archive Link
In early 2022, the command of the Mariupol garrison proclaimed the slogan "Azov is the whole of Ukraine." In practical terms, this call is embodied in the creation of new formations in the Ukrainian army. They are usually called "Azov" units.

The same legendary Azov, which defended Mariupol and held the defense of Azovstal, was founded on May 5, 2014. From the very beginning, it was a legal armed formation and was subordinated to government agencies. At first, it was a battalion of the special police patrol service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and then a regiment (separate special forces unit) of the National Guard of Ukraine. As of now, AZOV is the 12th brigade of the "Offensive Guard" in the MIA system.

At the same time, hundreds and thousands of people have gone through Azov over the past nine years. These veterans gained combat experience, learned Azov principles and ideology. On February 24, 2022, they did not lose their courage, but took up arms and began to defend their homes.

Each of them created his own unit in the region where he was located. Under different names, under different flags. However, all of them were founded by veterans of the Azov unit, all of them shared Azov values.

- Special Forces Group "AZOV-Kharkiv". Another tactical group within the Special Operations Forces. The fighters took part in the famous Kharkiv counter-offensive. Their symbols are similar to those of the Kyiv unit, with the only difference being the inscription "Kharkiv" on their chevrons.

- KRAKEN. A special unit in the system of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine exceeds the size of a regiment. Their military exploits are the subject of movies and research. The field commanders and the backbone of the unit are Azov soldiers, and the Kraken themselves use chevrons "AZOV" with Latin inscriptions (and the logo of KCP, i.e. Kharkiv City Patriots, a community of football fans) along with their symbols.

- SSO "Lubart". A separate special forces unit in the Special Operations Forces system. Formed from volunteers in Volyn. It was named in honor of Prince Dmytro Lubart, the founder of Lutsk Castle. As of now, they are also fighting in the Bakhmut sector. The main chevron is a crowned skull with the inscription "The dead are not afraid of death".

- The 98th Battalion of the anti-terrorist defense unit "AZOV-Dnipro". The soldiers with the "Idea of the Nation" on their green chevrons have been holding the front in southern Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale war. At the end of 2022, after the expansion, they became the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 3rd Brigade.

- TERRA. An intelligence unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The most technologically savvy, they use UAVs to adjust artillery and MLRS fire. They defended Kyiv and participated in the operation to de-occupy Kherson. Now they are part of the 3rd Brigade, fighting in Bakhmut.

This is an incomplete list of Azov units. On the Internet, you can find photos of the chevrons of Azov-Prykarpattya, Azov-Poltava, Azov-Zaporizhzhia and others. These units are named after the geographical location of their formation, but they fight on the front line, in the East and South of Ukraine. Not separately, but as part of larger units (for example, in the same 3rd Brigade). None of the "Azov" combat units are in the rear.

"The 'Azov' units are located in different state structures. It is very difficult to present their organization in a detailed scheme. First of all, it is not a centralized structure, but an organic community of military men united by common principles.

The Day of the Dead in 2022 brought most of the Azov units together in one place. In the light of burning torches, a sacred mystery was held in memory of those heroes who gave their lives in defense of Ukraine. Under the banners with the symbol "Idea of the Nation," the Azovs swore to take revenge on the Russians for each of them.

One of the public goals of the Russian invasion was the so-called "denazification". The invaders planned to destroy the Azov Army "in 3 days". As a result, instead of one regiment in Mariupol, the Russians received a whole network of units throughout Ukraine, and society clearly perceives the Azov soldiers positively as defenders of the state.

There are not thousands of soldiers who profess the Azov principles at the front, but tens of thousands. And these people are not going to stop until Russia is neutralized and destroyed as a dangerous terrorist organization guilty of genocide against Ukrainians.

Nationalists will spare neither their time nor property, and if necessary, their lives, to realize this super-task.

Prayer of a Ukrainian Nationalist. How the ritual of the Azov battalion is spreading through the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Archive Link
The Ukrainian army of 2022 emerged on the foundation of the phenomenon of the volunteer movement of 2014-2015. It is not surprising that many of the attributes of that time are now officially recognized at the state level. One such element is the tradition of soldiers publicly reciting the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist.

The text of the Prayer appeared in the twentieth century. It was written by the OUN underground member Osyp Mashchak. Legend has it that he wrote it in blood. This is true in a symbolic, not literal sense. Mashchak and his associates were serving a 15-year prison sentence. He was accused of murdering the Russian commissar Mylov, one of the organizers of the Holodomor, the genocide of 1932-1933. His experiences were written down on paper, but torture and repression give reason to call the ideologue's ink "bloody."

Ukrainian political prisoners read the Prayer aloud every morning and evening. Each from his or her cell, in a chorus, to strengthen their spirits and demonstrate national unity, despite the prison guards.

The power of this text led to its special status among the Ukrainian passionate society of the time. The prayer was recited by UPA soldiers at formations, with it they went into battle against the occupiers, and with these words on their lips they died in the war. Since then, the Prayer has become mandatory in the OUN. Everyone who joined the organization had to know it by heart.

It is the actions of the brave that explain the sacredness of the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist for future generations. With the restoration of Ukraine's independence in 1991, the words of the Prayer began to sound again on Ukrainian lands. In the Patriot of Ukraine organization, it was recited in front of the ranks, on one knee. Thus, in front of witnesses, they swore to fight for the Idea of the Nation to the last drop of blood.

In 2014, a volunteer battalion of the Azov Army was formed on the basis of the Patriot of Ukraine. Nationalist traditions got a second wind here. Since not all the recruits knew the Prayer by heart, at the initiative of the unit's ideologist, Mykola Kravchenko "Kruk," it was customary to say it collectively at formations. The leader would say it, and the formation would repeat it.

At first, this ritual was internal. The public learned about it in the summer of 2014, when Azov soldiers were leaving for the front from St. Sophia Square. In the center of Kyiv, the volunteers solemnly read the Prayer, swearing allegiance to Ukraine. They emphasized that the events in the East were not an "ATO" for them, but a Russian-Ukrainian war, a war for the survival of Ukrainians as a nation. Unfortunately, only a passionate minority understood this truth at the time.

At the same time, it was this minority that preserved the state and held the front. Following the example of the Azovs, other volunteer battalions began to recite the Prayer in a similar way, such as the Sich, the Legion of Freedom, the DUK PS, and others. A specific military volunteer tradition - this is how this ritual was perceived at the time.

In 2017, the "March of the Ukrainian Army" was presented, a song that later became the official anthem of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its authors placed phrases from the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist between the second and third stanzas. Specifically, from the audio version of its performance by the Azov soldiers.

Today, the Prayer is known and respected in dozens of combat units, among various units of the Ukrainian army. In the National Guard and the GUR, the Special Forces and the Ground Forces, in the terrorist defense, the National Police and even the SBU.

In his official address after the creation of the 3rd Separate Special Forces Brigade, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, paid special attention to the symbols of the new unit. The reason is simple: the main banner of our brigade contains the full text of the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist.

Despite its widespread distribution, the Prayer itself is quite difficult to learn by heart the first time. In the ranks of the AZOV regiment, this was solved very simply: the soldiers received their own copies of the text in the form of pocket calendars. They can be conveniently kept inside a military ID card or in the breast pocket of a uniform, near the heart.

Today, not only the soldiers of the Azov units, but also servicemen of other formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have similar copies of the Prayer. On the initiative of officers, they are given to mobilized soldiers at recruitment centers as part of ideological and educational work with new recruits.

At the beginning of the Russian invasion, the invaders openly stated that one of the goals of their war was to "destroy the Azov movement." A year later, even an idiot can see that this has had the opposite effect.

Instead of a single Azov regiment, in 2023 Ukraine has a whole network of Azov units. The ideas of nationalists resonate with different segments of the population, and I alone personally approved the printing and sending of more than 10,000 copies of the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist to various combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that are in no way connected with the Azov. Each of these copies bears the symbol "Idea of the Nation," an Azov sign that is an emblem of organized Ukrainian nationalism in general.

Russian propaganda calls such processes of ideological education of soldiers "satanization" of the Ukrainian army. We have already seen this in our history more than once, just remember the "anathema" against Hetman Ivan Mazepa. The answer to such hysteria is simple. If we do something that causes Russians to hate and fear us, then we are doing the right thing!

Full text of the Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist:

Ukraine, holy mother of heroes, come down to my heart, come with the storm of Caucasian winds, the noise of Carpathian streams, the battles of the glorious conqueror father Khmel, the triumph and roar of the guns of revolutions, the joyful sound of St. Sophia's bells.

Let my soul be reborn in you, illuminated by your glory, for you, O Holy One, are my whole life, for you are my happiness.

Ring for me the clanging of chains, the creaking of gallows on gloomy mornings, bring me the cries of those tortured in cellars, prisons, and exiles.

So that my faith may be granite, so that my strength may grow with zeal, so that I may go boldly into battle, as heroes did for you, O Holy One, for your glory, for your holy ideas.

To avenge the shame of captivity, the trampled honor, the mockery of your executioners, the innocent blood of your tortured children, the majestic death of the heroes of the Ukrainian nation and thousands of others unknown to us, whose bones are scattered or secretly buried.

Burn away all the faintness in my heart with your life-giving fire, so that I may know no fear, and know not what hesitation is.

Strengthen my spirit, harden my will, dwell in my heart, raise me to clear ranks, in ranks may I find death, a sweet death in agony for you, and may I melt into you and live in you forever.

Eternal Ukraine: holy, powerful, united!

This Russian conscription cycle will be very interesting for assessing the degree to which reserve structures have been cannibalized already. There is no way they have enough officers and trained personal ready too keep 100k people occupied. theyre gonna be in the fields doing manual work so whoevers in charge can arbitrage their labor for sweet sweet mansions in Sicily.

Most specialty units had manpower siphoned off to man dirt trenches for months. i remember a bunch of russian underwater demo guys getting smoked in some dirt hole in kherson. these capabilities are gone for good.

Wait, what? Russia put highly trained special operators on a front line doomed to fail fox hole? I need a citation for this. Its bullshit and I believe it, but even I cannot immediately assume they would be that dumb.

Russian Cope thread update. The Cossacks were totally Russian bros. No ties to "Ukraine" at all. No, Don't ask questions how they fought the Poles, Turks and Muscovites. Questions are NOT allowed. Especially the question "why has Russia removed the Cossack from the Zaporizhian Oblast Occupational Government Flag". That question is double plus bad.

The Ukrainians Claiming to be Cossacks is stealing Glorious Russian heritage for their perfidous means. No, Don't Ask why the realm of the infamous Zaporizhian Cossacks, who wrote that letter to the Turks was only incorporated into the Russian empire 250 years ago (along with the rest of the Lithuanian Commonwealth). Only globo homo trannies ask that question! If you point out the US State of Virginia is older then Russia's claim to Zaporizhia, you WILL be shot. Zaporizhia has always been Russian, and ALWAYS WILL BE REEEEE.

PDSS naval spetsnaz were assigned to a BTG formed from naval infantry to act as the regular motor-rifle part of the BTG. ukr MoD showed off their ID cards, KIAs, equipment and interviews with PoWs. iirc they complained about being deployed alongside DPR militia.

Lunacy! I reject your reality and substitute my own!

In seriousness though, I think quite a few were depleted before the trench warfare really set in, during the first Ukrainian counterattacks & pushes towards Kherson & Kharkiv, because they were often the only units who would stand their ground. But since they were left unsupported those vaunted formations got ground under early, and replacement troops were lifted from elsewhere, with very few actually going through any specialized training for reassignment.

It'd be like if the 1st Marine Division or 101st Airborne started pulling guys from the Naval reserves, Coast Guard, Border Patrol, etc; issued them air-assault & Ranger tabs for completing a multiple guess quiz (and/or not dropping dead during a week-long reclass), then sent them into Fallujah or Sadr City to die wholesale.

Fucking hell. For those who don't know, Naval Engineers are the elite of the elite. They go in first. Before anything else gets done via water. These are the guys who put on scuba gear and swim up to naval mines, and destroy them so the warships can maneuver. Both the US Army and the US navy have naval engineering units and the barrier of entry is...prohibitive. These are the hard core of the hard core. Anyone with the Army Scuba Badge is given wide birth and immediate respect. Its so rare that its the first indication of stolen valor and officers tend to immediately record search any asshole who shows up claiming that qualification.

The fact Russia transferred these guys to a regular marine unit, they got CAPTURED, along with the equipment to prove it is mind-blowing to me. This means two thing. Either Russia is so strapped for trained troops it had to draw on its specialists, or its specialists exist only on paper as a counter to their US equivalents. Either scenario is humiliating for Russia.

the amount of institutional competence and experience they lost is immense. most importantly, due to losses and reassignment of reserve officers to DPR/LNR formations and new units, RU ground forces are less scalable; cough.. cough.. conscription cycle 2023

Pardon my ignorance, but what equipment are you seeing specifically that confirms this story? I'm guessing some of the commo gear?

Perun noted it in one of his more recent videos. Noting that while Special Forces can be good well trained infantryman. Using them as such is an absolute waste as they aren't sufficiently better than regular infantry to justify the difficult to replace loss of their specialist abilities.

Russia was pulling regular sailors from Sevastopol and putting them on the frontlines in Bakmuht. Not Naval Infantry. Actual full time sailors needed to make his ships go.

I bet the Ukies would trip over each other to bring them in alive and all they'd have to do is radio in and say "hey guess who'd like to not die today?" They're valuable as hell and they know it; solid gold on the hoof.

And they're also among the most able to blow up shit that Putin really, really needs if he gets any funny ideas about pressuring their families or friends back home. If I were some conscript grunt who ended up by them I'd beg on my knees to tag along when they were about to get 'captured', those guys are a literal ticket out.

Hit me with the trashcans if you must, but I think this makes at least a faint amount of sense because his entire damn navy is little more than live target practice in a serious fight, with the exception of any boomer subs still running. Might as well put 'em where they won't all die at once.

The screenshot appears to be the original source (?). Someone who speaks Russian might be able to confirm.
The admin of that page is claiming to know the author of the photo and the story behind it(Ukrainian soldier killed in his sleep).
Pretty much all mentions of this photo on both Russian and Ukrainian channels link to the post in question so it's definitely plausible.

The problem is if you want your currently Garbage Barge Navy to ever return to even it's former inglorious status, you kinda need these guys who know how to do things like make the engines go, or tie the ships up at the docks. They're not really an expendable resource anymore than your air force mechanics are. Especially if you keep shaking your angry little cum covered fist at NATO.

The Rifle on the far right. Its not a gun the Russians hand over to just anyone because its one of their "show" rifles. Which means anyone issued it was used for show. Its an AK-12 for all you autists. Russia does not hand this shit to Mobiks. Just look at the picture. You can see the sliding arm rest that is just like the USA M4 carbine. The AK-12 is essentially an AK-47, but totally up to date like the M4. Russia only made this carbine for the elite of the elite that were supposed to just parade in Moscow on victory day.

oops.
