NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

This sounds great in theory, but it's perpetually 1984 over there and the manifesto and the opinions you'd be allowed to have would be ever-changing. We've always sent anyone caught yelling "23" straight to room 101!
There's also the many unwritten rules like the various posters that are given free rein or given it in certain threads by the mods, verboten topics not being verboten for some posters but not others and so on. Insert Animal Farm reference here.

Animebros, not like this.

Does ResetERA have a thread discussing Heavenly Delusion? The amount of gloating that must go on over there about this, combined with the uncle in Skip and Loafer that is a MTF which is also airing this season, it must be like Christmas for them, and the chimpout that will follow once the next episode of Heavenly Delusion comes out next week has to be pretty entertaining to watch.
For an explanation: The body of the girl in picture has the brain of her brother. His body was heavily damaged but his brain was intact while for his sister it was the opposite so they transferred his brain into her body. So not a troon at all.
Can't imagine that they will be happy once the truth is revealed next episode.

In the constructive community thread (hidden to non-members and un-archivable), B-Dubs explains why the site's rules aren't posted clearly and updated regularly.

Image posting seems broken right now so here's a quote:

B-Dubs the God-Admin of ResetERA said:
Allow me to try and summarize the sort of tickets we got in the aftermath of announcing our banning of the Harry Potter game:
  1. random bigotry
  2. naked pictures of trans people
  3. targeted bigotry
  4. generic hateful messages
  5. random transphobia
  6. pictures of dead animals
  7. a veiled threat of physical violence
  8. And more I'm probably forgetting
The 7 and 8 had me reaching out to MOBA about contacting the FBI if it kept up. Luckily it flamed out immediately afterwards.

The fact is, and I know we've said this before, creating a standardized list of banned personalities opens staff up to harassment from their fanbases and the wider internet. Beyond that, some members of staff are either public with their real life identities or have been doxxed by sites like Kiwifarms or other hate groups. When I was a mod I had asked why we didn't have a formalized list and this was the response I got, now I saw up close that the reasoning had a real point. I hope you can understand that I refuse to put the staff at risk to satiate your curiosity.

Beyond that, it is literally impossible for us to compile a list that covers everything and there are 1000% bad faith actors on the site itself who will use the existence of a formal list against us in the form of "how come you didn't ban x person when you banned y person?"

So no, we will not be making a list of banned sources/content. I hope you can understand the reasoning, but if not then oh well.

:story:

The secret to avoiding janny harassment is to have a bunch of shitty convoluted double standard rules that everyone is fully aware of, but don't add them to the official list of rules. This will confound the Kiwi Farmers and they will be incapable of criticizing you properly!

@Runch Images are working on my end. Maybe the site just acted wonky for a few minutes?

If 8 is apparently bad enough that you considered contacting the FBI, then I'm pretty sure that's not something you can easily forget.

Translation: We don't want to be called out for selective enforcement and double standards by bad faith actors people who know what the rules are.

There was also another post from B-Dubs about why they don't respond to unactioned reports.
The problem is that when there is a disagreement it can escalate and turn into a gigantic shitshow. At that point we either need to give in and ban the person despite us deciding that they haven't actually broken any rules (which would essentially just create mob rule) or ban the reporter who escalated into the gigantic shitshow and anyone else who refuses to let it go (which would create an even bigger shitshow). It's a situation where there is no winning, only losing for everyone involved. That's why we don't send out rejection alerts. They will never go over well, trust me on that because a few of us tried it a few years back and it lasted all of 20 minutes before it started going sideways.
Earlier, a moderator condescendingly chimes in and straight-up says at one point that they have to walk egg-shells around their userbase. Using quotes because I don't have access to the thread.
I don't really understand where the expectation comes from.
Since day one we have not acknowledged every report.
I would have assumed that by now everyone would have caught on to the general process.

Members report posts
I'd say usually within a day or two said report gets acted upon. Sure, that can sometimes take longer depending on the backlog, but rarely more than a week. 🤞🏻
If the report results in a warning/ban, the reporter is typically notified that the member in question has been warned/banned.
If the report is rejected, we generally do not explain ourselves, only in very rare instances would we go back to the reporter and explain why said post was not acted upon.

It is relatively safe to assume if you hear nothing back, we discarded your report for whatever reason.

In an ideal world, maybe it would be nice if we sent a rejection alert every time too, however as of now that really isn't feasible. We'd have to step on egg-shells with every acknowledgement pointing out the minutiae, as to why a certain post doesn't need moderation in our humble opinion. Not to mention, that we take ban/posting history into account and articulating all that in a concise acknowledgement seems implausible. And we all know that every word would be taken apart and dissected which would just lead to pedantic back and forth.

As for the rules not being updated. Rest assured, that work is ongoing.
If only it was as easy as just adding "hogwarts and c*nt are now banned, peace out!"

To be perfectly honest, personally I don't see the big deal myself. E.g. the c*nt thing was announced here, and within 15 min everyone in footy era, Aussi Era, UK Era, etc. was aware of it and ready to get out their pitchforks and complain about their civil rights been trampled... I know when I was just a humble member, I never read the rules and would have never known about any changes to them either... It really shouldn't be too hard not to get banned. Does this mean that some people might get caught off guard and unexpectedly banned? Sure, and if they submit a sincere report their chances are good that we will be lenient and rescind the ban. If they come in hot and throw a tantrum, then, maybe they get to enjoy their full length vacation off the site... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But again, regardless, the rules are being updated by some brave souls on staff as we speak so to say. Yours truly not being one of them.

In real words: if we list it out, it will be easier for you to point out our lies and hypocrisy. I mean, we can't possibly list out all the rules ourselves obviously, but everyone else must of course, remember them at all times, even the new ones, or face a ban!!
Anyone who points out our rules against us are 100% bad faith actors, unlike us, wgo are 100% not totally hypocrite.

The rules: For us to decide, for you to guess.

ACAB progressive lunatics calling on the FBI for non-federal crimes involving people saying shit on the internet never gets old.

They often are, though by no means always, Communists, at least in name only.

They obviously have studied neither Communism nor history, because if Communism was ever brought into wherever they lived, they would be the first to go. Back in the day, the Soviets thought of homosexuals as "deviants only possible under capitalism". Even if they weren't, some bureaucrat would do a cost-benefit analysis and quickly realize that keeping housebound trannies and hyper-fat people alive on the teat of government support is unsustainable and propose to either get them "help" or just eliminate them.

In any case, they would be required to do actual work, and those who don't work, if not killed outright, are sent to "reeducation camps".

Fuck, I don't believe in Communism and I'm still more Proletariat than most so-called Communists today.
Ironically, despite believing in a religious conception of an unrealistic version of man the communists were often much better judges of humanity than Era's members. Lenin, Stalin and Mao (at minimum) all recognized toadies and brownnosers (like RedMercury and Messofanego) for exactly what they were and what value they had (essentially none except when they needed a mob whipped up) while giving endless second chances and exceptions to people they could tell had real value and were willing to dissent for the good of the regimes goals. (Well, most of the time.) Deng Xiaopeng was "cancelled" more than almost anybody else in Maoist China but Mao kept bringing him back to clean up and fix shit, then by just a few years after Mao's death he had supreme power and started tearing down communism. They were also all pretty good judges of who was jockeying for power below them and which fervent members (TrasnEra, Nepenthe, etc.) needed to be isolated so that if/when they died they couldn't obtain power. Mao was so committed to a very Trumpian type form of management that he deliberately ostracized his own crazy wife within the Politburo and made clear to everyone else she was not to obtain power ever because it was obvious she was going to try to when he died and she was too nuts to ever compromise. Mao and Stalin were both personally terrible at compromise, being the figurehead of cults tends to do that, but they were both smart enough to recognize that sometimes even in the totalitarian utopia you might need to make some compromises rather than adhere blindly to the perfect scientific ideology that is whatever you think at any moment.

Era's view of communism is even more utopian than Marx's divine vision and more utopian than the utopians Marx was criticizing. Their version is basically "we seize all property and utopia immediately commences with endless abundance for all and no disputes ever again" and anyone who JUST ASKS QUESTIONS about how this is supposed to operate is a cishet white transphobe or something. If they were somehow the vanguard of a successful revolution we wouldn't even get to the purges and show trials because it would collapse immediately into chaos while they complained and asked where the government they just overthrew was to bring them their tendies.

I saw this thread, "just yell at them" is one of the most idiotic answer that proves just how sheltered and out of touch these retards are.

There's no gun where I live, but I sure as hell will stab or bludgeon the intruder with whatever weapon i have.

These kind of people are probably the ones who think that if you shout "no!", the rapist will stop raping.
Just say "Rapist no raping!" about 6 times. Works in Dora the Explorer.

The ticket system working exactly as it was going to work.

What could possibly go wrong with a system that deliverers unfiltered content to the mods without needing an account?

They only started the ticket system so they could ignore any complaints and not address them, "Raise a ticket" they cry when their hypocrisy is called out.

How dare he complain about the shitty performance of an actress from an unnecessary remake! If you don't like it, keep your opinion to yourself. YASS QUEENN!!!
And never go against that faggot ZeoVGM. That dude must be sucking the mod staff off with the free reign he has.
Remember when people used to say "The left can't meme"? It certainly applies to ResetEra. They want to insult people, but can't use any offensive language so a bunch of posts are just variations of "touch grass".
