Satanists use Satan as a metaphor, most of them are actually atheist (especially with LaVey Satanism). Devil worshipers are the ones who unironically pride themselves on being evil incarnate. But @Bitch I Might Be you're right, iirc something like LaVey Satanism was mostly made to piss of Christians.

They don't worship Satan, they use Satan and the rituals associated with worshiping Satan as metaphors and symbolism for man and the fulfillment of carnal desires. Satanists draw the line with abuse and sex offenders because they know everything is done ironically or symbolically. You're thinking of devil worshipers. Legitimate devil worshipers won't care what you do because they actually believe in what they are doing and that they need to please Satan by committing acts of evil.
