'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

OK Windows 10 question. For some reason the latest win update activated or put in a bunch of processes which spike my CPU every now and again. I've seen, and disabled 'feedback hub' and something to do with telemetry, even though when I installed this spyware piece of shit I selected the 'fuck you it's my data' button. But, and it's been happening for a while, every now and again 'services and controller app' with dry fuck my CPU, which is annoying when I'm watching something and the fans spin up because of some unknown process. I've disabled a bunch of shit in the services panel, but I still can't figure out what's causing the issue.
Any ideas?
Really tired of the bloat in Win 10 tbh...

Have you already run ShutUp10?
Just done it now; didn't know about the app. Many of the things that were not disabled, I sure as hell know were disabled in the past...MS being sneaky gits. I'm sure there's a GDPR violation here somewhere, not that DPA's give a shit about enforcing it

Edit: Applied settings and stuff, but it didn't fix it after a restart. S&C spiked up to 20% CPU use. I've looked online and this is a fairly common problem from what I see. Pity there's no 'Task manager'' for services :/

Does anyone know if there's a browser extension (I use Brave) that automatically changes links going to "reddit.com/whatever" to "old.reddit.com/whatever" ? If there isn't, it'll be the first time I've ever had something annoy me enough that it would motivate me to learn to code.

Can I ask what the fuck this is?

I had this NoScript popup stating "your identity might be acquired by jeffhuang.com." Typically when I get a NoScript popup it says something along the lines of "acquired by about:blank."

This is very different, so I looked up "jeffhuang.com" and from his home page: jeffhuang.com (archive)
I'm an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Computer Science at Brown University. My research is in Human-Computer Interaction, where my research group is building personalized systems based on user behavior data. These systems are applied to attention, mobile, user experience, and health. I am primarily funded by the NSF, NIH, and ARO, and have received the NSF CAREER award, Facebook Fellowship, and ARO Young Investigator Award.

My Ph.D. is in Information Science from the University of Washington in Seattle, and my masters and undergraduate degrees are in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Before joining Brown, I analyzed search behavior at Microsoft Research, Google, Yahoo, and Bing; and co-founded World Blender, a Techstars-backed startup that made geolocation mobile games.

Brown University students interested in joining my group should review our active projects and read about the expectations. Ph.D. applicants please read the Student FAQ.
TL;DR Researcher professor, Jeff Huang, at Brown University bent on "building personalized systems based on user behavior data" funded by stinky Internet companies/NGOs

Here is his Curriculum Vitae (archive) and there are a number of his projects on his site.

Now it goes without saying that Brown University is incredibly hostile towards free speech, and that the very notion of having some contentious data-harvester mining potentially user-identifying Farms data cannot be good.

Does this seem like cause for concern, or am I just a fucking sperg?

Can a slightly swollen lithium ion battery spontaneously combust with normal use, or does it need to be really swollen to do that?

Either something is seriously wrong with it or it's a sign of the end of the lithium's lifecycle. Just get a new one.

It's an old 3DS battery from over 10 years ago that may be slightly swollen.

Still works OK and has good battery life, and hopefully no explosion hazard.

How good is the picture quality of S-Video? I got a vhs player and a Sanyo 480p crt, and I'm finally getting S-Video cables for it . I just want my old tapes looking good with less artifacts man

Don't expect miracles because it's still just NTSC standard-definition video you're dealing with. But S-Video is the best you'll get with VCRs, and the improved color handling eliminates some types of video artifacts.

Oh I'm not expecting magic, I just want to milk the best out of my tapes. I got some good ones, like a color version of The Longest Day, which from experience, does not like modern 55 inch and up flatscreens. Any way I can boost the signal I will.

I can't speak to VHS tapes specifically, but with my SNES I get a much sharper picture on my CRT with S video as opposed to composite. It's not as clear as something modern over HDMI but it is a noticeable difference vs composite.

That's really what I'm going for, just a cleaner picture overall. As long as it does that r I'm happy

Can anybody recommend a stable and non-spyware laden torrent client for windows 10? Was using uTorrent but it’s shit.

Anybody know why I get a SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP no matter what archive.ph link I try to access?
Are you using Firefox? Try Chrome. That error message indicates Firefox can't retrieve the necessary security details - could be an outdated version of FF running, or the required encryption protocols have been disabled.
