Maybe if people like doctors, nurses, teachers , and everyone else mentioned didn’t have to work overtime because of overburdened systems that don’t provide them with the money they deserve they’d have time to go volunteer (and lawyers are just greedy). Old grandmas would be nice but unfortunately many of them have been dumped in retirement homes which don’t allow them to leave without some sort of permission from others, are raising grandchildren because their son/daughter is a pos that dumps the grandkid on them. Pretty much everyone you’ve listed could do it if they had the time or opportunity but for some reason don’t. There will always be someone better to read to kids so it’s a bit disingenuous to make it. Maybe have high schoolers volunteer per a community service requirement for school. So many good solutions but you and the rest of the world (me included) are not even trying to enforce them.
